I've been having this problem for a while, but I'm hoping there is a fix for it, since it happens a lot.

When I'm using the browser (this is an E70, so it's S60 3.0), I go to a couple of webpages fine, then I refresh/click a link/go to another site and I get a warning about it running out of memory.

Using Widsets I noticed the 'User Info' display and it shows '1631kB' under Memory... is this the total memory on the phone or just how much Widsets has been given? Is there a way to make the phone use more of the internal memory for 'memory' as opposed to storage?

Just to get a few things out of the way... I have tried it with no other applications open, I've tried using the web without images enabled too, and it still shows the same warning after viewing a few sites. I have plenty (around 30mb) of internal memory left, and a 2GB miniSD card. My current firmware is in my signature.

I know this won't help, but I get the same problem as well. I've turned off all the options that would fill the cache up and it still comes up with this silly error.

... I have the same issue, once I been through a few pages of my website I get the out of memory - close applications error.

I'm not running other applications.

I'll probably return this phone on the basis that the web browser just doesn't work!

I'm running exactly the same firmware and the first poster in this thread.

I have exactly the same problem. Has anyone been able to use the browser for more than a few minutes without seeing an "Out of memory" error? I'm wondering whether there is a general bug in all E70's or just a few rogue devices with bad memory chips / firmware or something.

Any comments from a moderator or anyone who's using an E70 without seeing the problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have been able to view more pages (or just refresh the current page) if I clear the cache, but there should be options as to how big the cache is, which memory to use to store the cache (so I can choose my memory card if I really want and have 2GB cache).

I'm really happy with the performance of browser when it works, I'm sure this must be an oversight somewhere, because the reviews of the browser are so positive, and this problem would have been found pretty soon in a rigorous test.

I'm happy with almost all aspects of the E70... when it works BUT... unfortunately it just doesn't work far too often. What I am trying to ascertain is whether there is a general problem with these phones, at their current firmware level (which I believe is 1.0610.05.07), or have I (and a few others) got a fault with our particular handsets.

On my device I get very frequent problems with memory - either "out of memory errors" or background applications just dying. This isn't only when using the browser, trying to run almost any two applications simultaneously (such as email and camera) causes a problem.

I have tried reporting this to Nokia via their support email address but just got back a standard response telling me to go to a service centre.

Is anyone using the E70 (and multiple appliacations) successfully?

Incidentally, can I suggest to the moderators that the topic of this discussion is extended to include E series handsets (or a separate thread is started). Thanks.

Try switching off the minimap in the browser. This has fixed the problem for me. In the browser main window choose >options>settings>minimap. The Exchange client, the web browser, the integration with wi-fi are all really impressive, the only problem I find with this phone is that there are way too many options, and too many different places you could have to go to set something up. To get the full potential of this phone, you need to be very technically minded But what a great piece of technology.

But the minimap is one of the most beautiful (and useful) things in the browser... Surely this shouldn't have to be disabled to get things working properly

I've tried switching off Mini map but I still get memory errors after opening a few pages in the browser and/or running multiple applications.

Nokia is positioning E series handsets as sophisticated business tools and there's some great software available BUT I think there's simply not enough memory in the E70 to cope. Have we been sold a dud or is there a solution?

Also, why isn't E series offered as a Topic area in these discussions or at least included under "smartphones"?

Some of the issues may be due to having the phone memory as storage as well as for application memory... apparently 25MB left on the phone memory is "getting a little low and may make apps work strangely" :s. Maybe these phones should have a completely different memory (or at least make the allocated memory unusable for storage).

E70 Run out of memory or closes an another app without asking you if want to end it.

I hope Nokia Engineers will fix this major bug in E70 ASAP.

Unfortunately I don't think there's much that can be done apart from maybe taking some of the storage memory and using that as internal memory. The E70 seems to have been developed with a very low amount of memory.

I just can't believe this wasn't picked up during testing.

You are right here, I have to agree with you.

Actually, they should be able to fix it, E61 doesn't have this problem.

There is real memory leak and bad RAM management in E70.

It happens when you use the E70 web browser.

Opening the qwerty keyboard also use like 5 MB of the ram.

I think cache shouldn't be stored in the RAM, to have more free ram for web browser.

E70 isn't stable for Multi Tasking yet
