Replaced N96 restarting

Hi, I too have a problem with my N96 which keeps restarting (every 20' if idle, every 5-10' if I try to use it, e.g. get directions, listen to music or make a phonecall).

I returned it to Nokia freepost 3 times, it was sent back without being repaired. After a few angry phonecalls I sent it back a 4th time and it was replaced with another N96 from their repair stock. That too kept restarting BEFORE I MOVED ANY OF MY CONTACTS OR SETTINGS TO IT. Sent it back again, third phone arrived and that too restarts!

I have updated the firmware to 30.033, done hard and soft restarts, removed battery for 5', spoke to Nokia care centre, nothing seems to help...

Is there hope, or shall I just bin it and get an iPhone?

Note that all replacement phones sent by Nokia are not new, but are phones other people found unacceptable and had replaced.

Any suggestions / help greatly appreciated.

Re: Replaced N96 restarting

Did you try the "3 finger" reset yet?

Re: Replaced N96 restarting

Yes, but no luck.

The problem existed since I got the "replacement" phone out of the box - note that the "replacement" phone was sent to Anovo for a repair on the 10/11 and sent out to me on the 12/11.

Re: Replaced N96 restarting

It is generic, bought from the Carphone Warehouse (product code is 0579094). I do not have a memory card in, but I have tried it with and without SIM (it restarts regardless and my SIM works fine in my N95)

Re: Replaced N96 restarting

The problems you describe are not typical of an vanilla N96 running v30

If you have tried the multi finger reset,

Tried to re-install the firmware

and it is still behaving like this then the only thing you can do is take it back and demand a warenty repair/ replacement

Re: Replaced N96 restarting

Thanks. I'm a bit p****d off though, as this is my 3rd N96 ("repaired" 3 times and replaced twice already) and I've still to get one that works! Speaking to their repair centre, it seems that the phones they send out as replacements are the same that they receive in to be replaced (sent to different users obviously)!!! No wonder they are all cr*p!

I've contacted Nokia yet again who have promissed to "escalate" my issue (as they did the previous 3 times). I guess I will just wait for my contract to expire and "escalate" my N96!

Re: Replaced N96 restarting

Its a pitty you are having this bad experiance

The N96 when it first came out was awful until FW v12 was released

Now that even the brandeds are onto at least v12 if you look at the forumsyou will find relativly few n96 issues ( save for the issues with the vodaphone tampered v30 a few weeks ago)

Re: Replaced N96 restarting

I think it is terrible that the service centre replaced your phone with another was obviously not checked out thoroughly. You should insist on a brand new replacement this time.

Re: Replaced N96 restarting

I should say, the handsets they sent back out have been "repaired" in the sense that they've been looked at, had parts replaced etc. and are only sent out when they meet certain standards. It's just that for some of the reverse logistics firms those standards aren't, shall we say, fantastic.

I don't think A-Novo have any real brand new stock to send out: they do tend to have old phone kits lying around (without the phone itself) but those aren't new either.

Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.
