Real Player - "Unable to play either sound or video clip - trying to play partially"

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I have a Nokia N96, I'm unable to play videos from the Real Player. I transferred a few videos from the PC using Nokia Video Manager. When I try to play the video, it gives me a error message - "Unable to play either sound or video clip - trying to play partially". I tried transferring another video using Ovi Suite, but still get the same error. I also tried recording video on my device & tried playing it, but still get the same error message. I'm unable to play the videos recorded from the device. I updated the firmware of the device twice. But couldn't get rid of the concern. Can anybody help me on this???

Device Firmware Version: 30.033

RM - 247

It is a common phenomena mate. It also happens to my devices only when I experiment codecs with much higher bitrate or resolution. Try to lower the bitrate settings (in between 550-640 kbps), keep the resolution 320x240 with 24 to 29.97 FPS with H.264/AVC codec, the phone is ready to play the video in a whole. Let us know the improvements. I use Super, Videora to convert files.

I have an N86 and have the same problem - which, as has been said, is down to resolution issues. You could get Coreplayer (at a cost if you get it properly) which works pretty well and it also can play some files that Realplayer won't. Prob not worth it unless you wanted to plug the phone into a TV to view through that.

Hi,

I tried changing the bitrates also...I'm using Videora converter. My concern is...I'm unable to even play the video recorded in the handset.

Now that really redicules me. I think the problem is now related to your phone's real player. If you had already installed the latest SW, I suggest you to do a factory resetting (*#7780#), if it fails then a soft reset (*#7370#), even if it fails then the 3 fingers hard resetting.

If none of this things work, I have nothin left to say.

RealPlayer is garbage. Period.  It never has been good, it never will be good. I fail to see why nokia uses Real when there is so many other players out there - my guess is Real is cheap to license cause it is trash, and Nokia figured that nobody would notice that their video player supports almost ZERO codecs.

CorePlayer is better.

Personally I have been waiting for VLC to be ported to Symbian - there are some guys working on it, should be up in a month or so.  VLC plays EVERYTHING.  Here is the link - the website is terrible but...

The N900 based on linux should be the first Nokia that can actually play media - and its NOT RealPlayer.  First smart move on Nokias part in a long time.

I love my purple screen, 1/2 day battery, sketchy touch screen and $800 price tag - I call it my Lumia 900

Hi,

I did restore factory setting from the handset & then did the 3 finger hard reset. I tried recording video in the handset & I was able to play the videos from the Real Player. Thank you so much.:smileyhappy:

Hi,

To Hard reset your mobile, Switch Off your mobile, then press the * (Star Key), Answer key (Green) & Number 3. Then switch On the mobile. Wait untill you see the Nokia Logo. Then release the keys once you see the Logo. Don't forget to take a back-up of the data before doing a hard reset.
