Problems installing Python for S60 v2.0

[ Edited ]

When I try to install Python for S60 v2.0 (from the program update on the phone) I get this error:
1 update could not be installed. Close some programs and try again.

But I don't have any other open programs!

I have Nokia N78

I experienced a similar issue on my E52. I was able to install the update after I rebooted the phone without a sdcard inserted. Maybe you can install the python update this way, too.

Please update the available features one by one if possible, the device is like a computer also. Try restart and continue with the Python updates.

Please feedback any issues. TQ

Re: Problems installing Python for S60 v2.0

I had a similiar problem and have yet to find a solution. I eventually uninstalled Python as I have no current need. When I do I will try a direct install of the most recent version instead of an upgrade.

Re: Problems installing Python for S60 v2.0

Hi,

Do I need to install the PyS60 script shell separately or is it included in this installer??

I have actually installed the PyS60 1.9.6 (last stable release available at maemo garage) but cannot find the script shell for 1.9.6 anywhere!

Re: Problems installing Python for S60 v2.0

There doesn't seem a way to edit my old messages .. so need to add new replies ..

I have Python runtime 2.0 and ScriptShell 1.9.4 installed. However when I try to open the script shell it says I need to launch App Updater .. when I launch App Updates .. it says all apps are up to date :-(

Re: Problems installing Python for S60 v2.0

Python is not an app, it's an operating programme, like Flash or Java, you won't get an icon. By the way, why do you want Python ? I have it and it makes a novelty Beer programme fill screen then empty when tilted ! Only bothered with it because I have a mate who thought his fruit based product was the best thing since sliced bread, worry about Python if you find something you really want that requires it to work !

Good Luck

Re: Problems installing Python for S60 v2.0

Well - I did get it to install finally. I gave up trying to go with PyS60 v2.0 and installed Python runtime 1.9.7 and script shell 1.9.7.

@carman58 - It seems the script shell creates an app, the runtime (understandably) does not.

I needed python to use a script to do time-lapse photography on my 5800. Unfortunately Nokia has not provided the timing facility for sequence photos in the 5800.

Re: Problems installing Python for S60 v2.0

hey I had the same problem for ages & it finally worked after I removed my sdcard + changing the options on the nokia OVI suite under tools --- options   --- My devices --- Preferred memory to be phone memory...and then it worked, so give it a shot ;-)
