I've have this problem from yesterday: the notification icon of sms and the notification in the pull down menu always say "you've a new message". Rebooting the phone, the message is also on startup popup.
There are no new messages in the phone (to be sure I deleted all messages).
If I receive a sms, the notification turns to "you have two new messages".
This is happening since I have received a sms containing a dowload-link from ovistore (i was using it by pc).
Is there a way to solve this annoying problem?
Does Symbian store a sort of log of incoming messages somewhere? Is there a file I can delete or modify?
Tnx

You didn't say which phone you have but have a look at this and see if any of it helps.
1. You may just have an unread SMS from your last phone that is still saved on your SIM card. To check, goto Messaging>Options>SIM messages.
2. SIM card's message memory is full. Delete messages from the SIM card. Goto Messaging>Options>SIM messages
3. Phones messaging memory is full. Try deleting messages, also checking in, Sent and drafts.
4. Even though all your messages may be marked as read, just going down through the list and opening them all again one by one have also been known to resolve this issue. This could take some time but is worth a try if you do not want to delete any messages.

Ehm..sorry...the phone is a N8 just upgraded with Belle.
I already checked every message to find the unread one, but they where all read and there are no messages on the phone and on the sim at the moment.

What did you do with the link message? Have you deleted it?

When you say you tried rebooting, do you mean powering the phone off and on again or holding the power button down for 8 seconds until the phone vibrates 3 times in quick succesion?

This is the first I have heard of anything like this and I would have thought the 8sec reboot would have sorted it. Unfortunately I can't think of any other solution other than to try the resets. Perhaps you could wait and see if anyone else has any other suggestions before trying that.
Remember to backup your phone if you decide to try the resets.

The soft reset was the first thing I tried...but nothing appened.
I've have pre-belle backup, but I'd prefer to avoid a deep reset: two days spent in optimizing everything... ![]()
Thanks for the help ![]()

No Problem. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Please come back and let us know if you manage to sort it without a hard reset. ![]()

Solved.
In the most "stupid" way
I just restored messages' backup. Now all is working fine...no more absurd notifications.
