this is my first phone with OS and didnt had to update software so far(my latest phone was Prada , before that I had Samsung d-600) , I dont know if this happened before to someone else (is this normal or I'm doing something wrong) , as I said I already read all FAQ and made beckup so I think that I do everything right.
Is your phone sim locked? If you bought it from a service provider/telco, then the firmware upgrade has to be approved by them before it is released unlike those that are bought directly from Nokia or it's dealers which are not sim locked.
Regards.

Nokia 5800 - Problems exist even after 11.0.008 update:
I recently updated the 5800 phone software via nokia web support. When it restarted the time was changed, so i tried to adjust the time, and surprisingly there was no option to specify AM or PM, so i just clicked on any alphabet and it switched between AM and PM, which is not logical.
The other problem is while typing message in capitals the full stop (.) key changes to dash (-) and you have to switch to number mode to put a dot (full stop).
There may be more problems but since i am not that advanced user (not using GPS, WI-FI etc), i have not explored the phone fully. I hope others will identify other problems (if any) and nokia will release another update.
Although i am very happy to have this phone but at the same time i am a bit disappointed that nokia launched this phone without complete homework and the situation is that if someone sees this phone in my hand, instead of getting impressed, gives a silly expression saying "oh, that phone is full of problems". and then i keep justifying on behalf of nokia. I hope nokia is listening!

Dear dubeyniraj76,
1) You might be switched on the Automatic time adjust... (and you did the update with different time zone)....I suggest you to switch it off.....
2) you are not aware about how to chage AM/PM.....Please READ THE MANUAL....
3)Again you have to read the manuals of the Phone before to use it and before you call them as "Problems"....
For your informations.... NOKIA shipped 1 Million 5800 Phones yet.....1 Million users are not made the wrong decision.... ![]()
The people who says it "full of Problems", (i) they might not be owning a phone...(ii) there are not aware about it...

I found another bug:
Try downloading different files from the browser and a window will appear for the status of the downloads when you reach probably 5-10 downloads try scrolling down the download windows if you can ![]()
you need to tap the downloaded files and drag it down or up to scroll the files the scrolling bar at the right doesn't seem to work which should not be the case.

I'm still having trouble updating my firmware.
I have a pre-order (online UK Nokia shop) 5800 with product code "0575581" and I'm stuck on firmware V.10.0.010.
I've tried over the air and Nokia Update Service and both says I have the latest firmware.
Nokia's 'Can I update?' page on their site says my product code should be able to get v.11.0.008
I've also read on other forums, people with the same product code being able to do over the air updates straight after they bought the phone from the Nokia shop. Some claimed the phones were already on v.11. Others are like me, having difficulty.
I've tried with both o2 and Vodafone sim cards in case it was to do with the network.

For me, the automatic time adjust doesn't work on the 5800. It worked peachy on my previous E70.
I have the phone for 3 days now, and the clock is already 3 minutes late with automatic time adjust turned on.
The software on the phone is not very stable and mature. I admit the phone is a big milestone for Nokia to catch up with the iPhones and Google G1s in the world, but I had spent a little more testing before releasing it into the wild.

I'm having problems with my 5800. When making a call or receiving one, the display shuts off (black screen). Also, during calls (outgoing / incoming) i could not hear anything.
Please help me on this problem... Thanks

Thanks for the help.
How about on the display being lost when there are calls done?
The screen just go blank when someone calls or I make a call.
Pleas help again...

Are you using Scratch guard for your mobile?? If yes, make sure that it is not over the sensor which is between the earpiece and front camera. If this is OK and the problem still persist, contact Nokia Service Centre.

isnt that great! its magic, right!? hehehehe, just kiddin ya!
as the other poster said, the 5800 has a built-in sensor, and the screen will blank coz its a protection so that if you try to put it near your ear like when calling, you will not accidentally touch the screen with your ear and so, might end up, cutting the call or something, and a s already mentioned make sure the sensors are not being blocked by a screen protector or anything there (its above the "XpressMusic" logo)

Thanks a lot!!!
By the way, going back to my earpiece problem.
Is there are way to fix it without opening the phone?.... It's like when calls are being done (incoming & outgoing), i could hardly hear or totally can't hear a thing. But sometimes, when i change my position or location, i can sometimes hear but could get lost easily.
Another help please!!!

Good evening gents
Got my 5800 three days ago and everything was fine and dandy.
After updating to FW 11.0. (with no problems whatsoever) i stumbled upon the usual (judging by the number of posts in here) "certificate expired" message when trying to install apps like themes etc and so i tried the method suggested by some in here : backing-up everything, removing the mem. card, restoring the phone to the factory settings, input again the date/time and insert the mem.card again.
Well, it didn't seem to work because the "certificate expired" message is still there when trying to install apps etc...
I took all the right steps described in the "fix" but it's a no-go unfortunately...
Oh yes, now the net browser hangs too (used to work fine before i performed the "fix" for the "cert.exp." problem).
I've also restored the phone's previous settings from the back-up data but i'm still facing problems...
Thanks in advance for any replies lads, cheers
