Will overcharging decrease
battery life?

Seems so. Nokia, in its user guide writes "do not leave a fully charged battery connected to a charger, since overcharging may shorten its lifetime".
But dont have technical details regarding this.

As far as I can tell, it doesnt really. New Li-ion batteries have a cyclical based lifespan, meaning its good for 600 cycles. After which battery life deteriorates.

The only disadvantage of leaving the charging 'ON' even when fully charged is the consumption (wastage) of power I think !!
