Orange charging for wifi

I've a Nokia Express Music and I'm with Orange.  Can I change the settings on my phone so that Orange can't charge me for wifi access - they charge even when I use wifi in my own home, provided by BT Broadband.  I'm about to go on holiday and want to be able to check my emails when in hotspots but don't want to have to pay Orange for the privilege!  Someone suggested that my phone probably over-rides wifi and uses the Orange Internet connection instead but I don't know how to alter the settings to stop this. Any help gladly welcomed!

I doubt Orange can find out when you are using WiFi - it is not in their control.  What may be happening is that some application is using the Orange connection without your knowledge.

After you configure your phone to use WiFi, you should make sure that each app you use is configured to use that WiFi access point as its default connection.  In particular for the 5800 (you didn't say which model of the XpressMusic you were using) the email, web browser, maps and video player individually need to be set to use the correct access point.

You can also make sure that your Orange connection is either never used (by deleting them from the access points list), or you can set them to be used only after confirmation, so you would know if it was ever being used.

For further connectivity questions, there is a Connectivity discussion forum.

Re: Orange charging for wifi

Many thanks for your advice.  My phone's a 5800.  Could you possibly give me more detail on how to set the correct access points?  I've tried without success but it's probably because I don't understand the terms you use.  Also possibly because of my advanced age... Where do I find the access points list in order to delete Orange from it?
