Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

I have read a couple of peoples posts on here that were refused updates / could not be updated as their phones were the orange messed up firmware versions. Does this mean that if you are having problems with your N80 and a firmware update will fix the probs, but your not allowed it as your on a orange contract, your stuffed, or do orange fettle with each firmware update so that there is an orange version of it too ?.
Wasn’t it also the memory card disappearing only happening on orange phones ?. I take it orange integrate their own fixes into the firmware updates so this too will be fixed or am I being too optimistic?.

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

orange do configure all their handset, and yep this mean all the n80's too :smileysad: and there have been a lot of problems when then doing this as is clear from most of the post on here and from my own experience with having an orange n80 that it clashes!!! I too hope orange will fix this problem, as for me i'm ending the contract with orange, and have ordered another n80 with another network. :smileyhappy:

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

lisa as you have said you have ended your contract with orange, who have you set a new contract up with? cause i am also thinking about ending my contract with orange as they have proved to be useless and their customer service is absolutely dreadful. now that you have ended your contract to you have to wait a few months for it to be ended or can you set up a new contract straight away. i am thinking of changing to vodafone but the N80 is quite expensive with them as on orange the handset price is about £40. aslo vodafone do not seem to have such a good price plan as i have at the moment with orange. my N80 on orange is currently at Nokia headquarters being fixed and has not been returned yet, so i'll just have to wait and see :smileysad:

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

Hi Shevanel! Thanks for your message....

I ended my contract with Orange within the 14 day money back gaurentee, and requested a PAC code to keep my current mobile number as I took it with me when I went to Orange. This extends the 14 day money back gaurentee to 28 days. I have ordered my new N80 from mobileshop.com under the 02 network, the calling plan isn't very good for me as I'm more of a texter but the handset is free for £35 per month line rental. I've always been with 02 and I've found their network coverage is always very good, I haven't heard any bad reports about 02 or Vodaphone regarding the N80 software so I'm hoping this will work ok this time! I've found Orange customer services to be very curtious and polite, however not very good at resolving problems! The calling plan I had with Orange was very good as I had 1000 texts every month, but I found out this doesn't include MMS messaging or video messaging.

If you haven't done already I would check out Mobileshop.com as I've had several phones through them and always found them to be really good.

Hope this is of some use :smileyhappy:

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

Thank you very much lisa for your reply. I am hoping to get the N80 on Vodafone as they seem to be a quite good network, i have had my N80 for 2 weeks now so not sure if i will be able to get my money back or anything and i do not know when it will come back from Nokia headquarters for repair. Were you able to get your £40 back from what you paid for the handset? Hope i am able to change my contract soon.

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

you really need to contact orange and tell em your not happy with the phone or their service over this matter and for that reason you want to end the contract! did orange tell you to send it off to nokia?
do you cave orange care?
if you have orange care, then it should have been them to be fixing your phone or sending out a new one.... not nokia! I would defferently ring orange today and tell them that you want to end the contract and tell why.... if you hang on they'll try and sting you for the hole year line rental....

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

When i contacted orange they told me that i needed to take it to a Nokia repair center, as the problem was witht the Nokia software and they couldnt fix it, i do have orange care but they said that as its a software problem they can not do anything about it, and couldnt send out an other phone as its most likely that the problem will also be on the replacement phone. I sent my phone to Nokia last wednesday so it should be back soon, when i recieve it i will most likely contact orange and tell them i am still not happy with the phone and probably will be changing network, they will probably make me pay the whole year line rental as a result :smileysad: but it's their own fault for telling me to take it to Nokia as it's not their problem. I told them the last time i phoned up that i am thinking of ending my contract with them as i am unhappy with them, so they may get the message through to them.

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

oh dear it because of orange configuring the phones with their software which make the problem! if they do make you pay for the whole year, and you get the handset back from nokia, I'ld sell it on e-bay :smileywink:
saw one go on there 2 weeks ago for over 400 pounds! so that might help with the line rental! they cant ask for the handset back surly if they making you pay for the year rental?! but who knows with em!
I'm not happy with orange at all, and to put the icing and the cake they've taken over my internet provider :smileysad: :smileysad:

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

Hahah good idea may sell it on ebay, see how it goes. ah gutting were you with wanadoo? I am not really happy with orange either when i spoke to a person in charge she sounded very rude and unhelpful with dealing with the problems, orange should have not dived right in and sell the N80 when it has so many bugs, they should have checked fully to make sure all problems had been sorted out and not be greedy and try to be the first uk network to get the phone. now so many people have purchased the phone on orange they are now stuck with a phone with so many problems and a network who does not know how to solve these problems and prove to be very unhelpful. I hope to god if i change to vodafone these problems do not occur again, it'll be a nightmare! Also i will have to pay a price for an other handset :smileysad: its getting worse and worse haha when are you hoping to receive your O2 N80?

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

well i ordered the phone on friday from mobileshop.com, they emailed me to say it maybe take upto 2 working days.. i guess wednesday....
can't wait; wish i had never left o2, vodaphone looks really good to, but changeing from o2 to orange and it didn't work out the OCD part of me never wants to change again....hahaha. will waite and see, but i'm really hoping that there want be half as many bugs!
I know its a pain what orange have done but they knew if they were the first network to bring the phone out then they would make shed loads of money... I can't blame them for that....
yes i'm very gutted as I was with wanadoo and they were ok freeserve were the best... but now orange have it just got a feeling this is a sinking ship.....:smileysad: :smileysad:

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

Yeah its a shame about the orange take over from wannadoo, have prices changed at all or are they still the same? I'm just with plain old BT. I hope the contract works out well with O2 anyways. I hope I get a good deal with Vodafone too, they seem to have the best coverage, I also use my phone loads for texting and I had 1000 free texts each month with Orange but it looks like Vodafone only do 500 free texts each month, but I wish to get free Vodafone Live Tv seems pretty cool to watch channels in a 3g coverage. Do you know if its free to browse with Vodafone cause dont Orange charge? Cause I wish it was free to browse the web because the amount of mega bytes the web takes up is costly with orange, as they charge a lot per mega byte. T-mobile have web and walk or something which is free to browse the entire web. Hopefully when my phone returns this week from Nokia I'll sort out a new contract if I can. The only thing that proved to be useful for me from orange was orange wednesdays :smileyhappy:

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

lisa76, who told you that N80's on the orange network cannot have firmware upgrade? No offence but whoever told you that is having you on, I took mine to my local Nokia service centre because it was crashing and they upgraded the firmware within an hour and kept the Orange software in too, btw, I seem to experiencing fewer problems as time goes on. My biggest complaint, to be honest, is battery life but I don't know what some people want: a small handset (small battery - naturally)or a great big handset for longer battery life, my previous phone was a 9500 communicator and I used to get over a week out of a charge but that phone was like carrying a brick! Perhaps a happy medium would be good. Also, since turning off all the phone default connections - but still using wap, mms etc my data usage has come down to less than 2 meg in two weeks including downloading some video from orange world.

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

hello bigguy, thanks for your comment, i don't remember saying that you can't get it firmware upgrade on the orange network... I've not had a problem with the firmware with my n80 i.e crashing....so i wasn't talking about that... sorry for any confusion :smileysad:

what i was talking about; was orange configuring thier phones with their software, and with the n80 they have configured the phone to make a gprs connection ( I dont mean for going on the web) I mean the 2 white lines under the 3g or the airel symbol, and the only ones to correct this is orange. in my case orange disabled the gprs on my phone.... which I dont find good enough and doesn't solve the problem..

At the end of the day this phone looks very cool :smileywink: it's new and therefore bound to have bugs, (no matter what network your on) however, other networks e.g. o2 have not releast the n80 because of the software problems and it's a shame orange didn't do the same maybe, but I can't blame them for wanting to make money!

and well since the cut off the gprs my bat life is a lot better.... :smileyhappy: :smileyhappy:

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

hello nash83, the n80 i have now is my second handset the first one had a fault with the LCD screen (which wasn't an orange problem...lol) they rang my within the 3 days which they say they will and they had my current handset to me by 10am the following morning. it's just a shame they weren't so helpful with the other problem...
please don't be worried about contacting orange, because when i told them i wanted to end the contract they were very helpful and friendly... :smileyhappy:

Re: Orange Customers Refused Updates (N80) ??

Hi lisa76, a bit of confusion all round there I think, sorry if I sounded harsh. You say you preferr o2, I find that where I live reception very poor on that network and Orange is very good reception - maybe that's why I like them, however, on the subject of immovable software I bought an o2 phone with imode on it and what a rip off that is! You have to subscribe to nearly all channels - except bbc and sky and many wap sites cannot be downloaded due to them not being compatible with imode. Anyway, going right off the subject here so back to the Nokia problems, experience with Nokias tells me that they'll get it right sooner rather than later, please let us know if your o2 N80 is better than our Orange ones.

I'm hoping to get the N80 on Vodafone soon as Orange is having many problems with it, just have to wait for it to get back from Nokia Uk headquarters, does anyone know if the N80 on Vodafone will have the latest firmware upgrade, or will i have to send it back to Nokia?

Is that a replacement N80?

When you get it please post the Firmware version details.

I think you'll simply get a new N80 with the same Firmware, and as such the same problems will arise.

I've tried and tried to explain to Orange that this is not an issue with my N80, but ALL Orange N80's. They either don't seem to want to know, or can't grasp what I've told them. I've even emailed links to the various threads here!

If anyone knows an email address for the executive office at Orange, please PM it to me.
