Hi

I have asked Orange for my N95 to be unlocked so that I can use my my work sim card which is on another network. The application was made on the 2/03/08 and payment was taken immediately the request was made. I was told that it would take a maximum of 10 days to supply me with the unlock number. It is the 22/03/08 and I have not received the number. I do not want to leave orange in any way I just want to be able to use the handset for work instead of using two handsets.

They have told me that they have applied to Nokia for the code. Who has the code Nokia or Orange? And how long should it take

Any help would be appreciated

If phone IMEI is on Orange database it their problem and it is just sitting in an in-tray somewhere. It is obviously too much bother to draft you an e-mail or letter with the instructions how to key the code in.

Your code should be in similar format to this:

#pw+000000000000000+1#

You use repeated "*" presses to obtain "pw+"

Note that there are only three attempts at inputting this code before you are locked out.

Orange, its all their problem, if your phone is orange branded and you bought it on an orange contract its their issue. I hear they have no proper complaints department contactable by phone or email and it has to be by fax or letter.

You should of had it by now but I think they are legally allowed 28 days for them to provide it to you. I've heard of networks emailing people a copy of the code within 4-5 and mailing them a copy within 2 weeks.

Hi the only way to unlock the n95 is to have it sent away to nokia the procedure is called testpoint & involves removing the m/board connecting a device & flashing the software I took mine in today to have it sent away the company is purple life ( you can find on web) cost £39.99. There are others claiming to do it with a IMEI it is not possible so don't waste ur lolly. Hope this helps DM

It is the network's responsibility to provide its users with SIM-unlock codes.

As for how long it takes, if you're still within the period when you have to pay them to unlock the phone then I don't know. If you've had it for long enough for the operation to be free then they should be able to give you the unlock code over the phone. I've had 5 phones unlocked that way and I've always been given the codes over the phone.

if it's unlocked by other than the network then your warranty will be invalidated

OT: Shouldn't the unlock code be free at the end of your contract? I don't think it is on T-mobile

Are mobile telcos not obliged by law to allow users to SIM-unlock their phones for free after a certain length of time? Most do allow this, so why would T-Mobile do something to make the (fierce) competition look more attractive? I have to admit, though, that I didn't look at that particular aspect when comparing contracts.

There is talk on the net about some guy named Dejan from Serbia who has allegedly worked out how to do it.

If you do a search on Google I'm sure it will bring up stuff.

Not sure how authentic this guy is though. :-/
