now if you were not passionate about nokia - you would not complain. you would just move on to another brand and the chapter would be over. why do you linger ? the anger and frustration is one of hope for the brand in the future is it not?????
saying you are done with it over and over again still does not translate into action and you leaving the brand or the forum....so what is it truly?
Is this meant for me? Because I have never said I'm done with Nokia!
LOL no, it was not meant for you.....it was a general observation of people that are dissatisfied with the product. not a personal reply to anyone.

Yes, I know there are others, but you get the idea!
Something that I will admit to doing which comes from being a previous iPhone user, is a daily reboot. Every night before I get into bed, I reboot my N97 and stick it on charge. My iPhone was never fully stable without at least one reboot a day and having had it for over 18 months, I guess it became a bit of a habit (tradition maybe!) which I now do with my N97. It runs sweet as a nut and I don't suffer any of the out of memory errors, crashes or hangs so many are reporting. You could try doing this too, it may well help. You have nothing to lose by trying afterall.
and yes i totally agree with you. if not a daily reboot, then at least weekly is recommenced. i do it daily as it is a habit of mine with any of my n series. in that aspect i treat it like a computer which does nicely with reboots once in a while. as the scale of the phone is smaller it needs its pipes to be cleaned more often.

meamo 5 is amazing software. the fact that its linux based and open source will be advatageous especially for us the consumer. the apps, games, improvements, we will all benifit.
nokia isn't going to kill the symbian os anytime soon. they have gone open source with the introduction of the symbian foundation, and a new revamp is expected sometime next year. so all those who have cried and moaned about sybian, wait and see.
the n97 isn't that bad. the firmware updates have improved performance, and in october it will graduate to version 2.0. right now we just have to wait and see if what nokia promised does come true.
on another note, i don't know why everybody is comparing all touch screens to the iphone. why? because of the transition menus in the ui, or the wide range of apps you can install thats unorganised, no categories, so you have to scroll through pages til you find it. where is the functionality. i don't call it that revolutionary, i call it cosmetic. all what the iphone does others have been doing already. it took apple three generations to introduce copy & paste and video recording. wow.
@ mattye: htc doesn't make software just the hardware. they have been running winmo for years and now android. if the decide to run symbian, what will you say then.
i see nothing wrong with symbian and have no doubt that the n900 will raise the bar, even for apple.

matt_t wrote:I personally can't see what all the fuss is about with the capacitive screens. I certainly don't miss the multitouch capability from the iPhone, in fact, at times, it was a pain in the bum.
The screen on my N97 is just as clear and sharp (sometimes more so) and it's as sensitive as the capacitive ones I've used.
I haven't used the N97 so perhaps that is a lot better, but the resistive screen on my 5800 is a pain in the **bleep**. If I try to push a small button in one of the corners of the screen, I have to take about 5 guesses of where to press as my clicks don't register properly. Opera mini browser uses small buttons in the corner and is very hard to use!

I think some people here are getting paid by Nokia to say positive things about the N97 and 5800 even they are the worst phones!

in reference to the OP's assurtion that the lack of kinetic scrolling is a limitation of Symbian.
there is video this morning of the next major f/w update for the n97 due in october, with full kinetic scrolling.

i said from the begining your were wrong to assume the things you didn't like were a limitation of symbian.

i saw the video too. the upgrade will surely bring tears of joy to all n97 users. their flagship is now clear for take off.
maybe now the n97 will stop being hated on. i know all the bugs won't be fixed but lets hope at least 95% will be.
who said symbian was dead? and who said resistive was junk?

I am obviously complaining about the (lack of) features in the current version of symbian, not future versions. If future versions of symbian become more user friendly (ie. with kinetic scrolling), then I will be a happy chappy.
Although I'm sure there's no technical reason we couldn't have kinetic scrolling on other S60v5 devices like the 5800xm.

no one knows if nokia will make this happen on the 5800. remember the 5800 isto have supposed to be a mid range device. if they do include it in a future upgrade then it will be all good. but with the launch of the x6 with a capatitive touch screenand 32gb internal memory, i doubt it will happen.
at nokia world they said the x6 was the upgrade to the 5800, and costs more money. so they may just leave it as is to offer users variety. but then again i might be wrong.
