Nokia, when will you learn?

Nokia, when will you learn?

Nokia keeps throwing out these fancy new phones like the X6, a beautiful looking phone with decent camera and 32GB built-in storage.. but it still runs symbian OS.

There is nothing wrong with the hardware Nokia keeps on churning out (aside from them keeping the same processor and battery so many complained about with the 5800), it's the software. Compare the ease-of-use of an iPhone or any of HTC's handsets compared to symbian phones.. symbian is really out of date software. The touchscreen on symbian is not really utilised very well because everything is still point and click.  There's no kinetic scrolling (at least OS-wide, anyway), no shortcut gestures, etc. It may be able to do more than most other OS's but you need to jump through hoops to get it to work!

The Maemo OS on the upcoming N900 looks amazing, Nokia should just include that with all of their future smartphones!

Re: Nokia, when will you learn?

If you don't like symbian then don't moan about it just do not buy it, many people do like it.  If you like maemo buy the N900 or any future maemo device.  It's a bit early to say that all nokias should be maemo until first device (with real phone abilities) proves itself to be successful.

Like most phone manufacturers nowadays nokia is using 3 or 4 different OS's to give people as wide a choice as possible. Symbian is in a transistion phase at the moment so it's certainly not worth ditching yet.

For those that do like symbian the x6 looks like being a decent phone. Obviously for those that don't like symbian avoid it like the plague.  Simples :smileyhappy:

i do agree with matttye, nokia should come clean with their mistake thy have made with the n97. being so unstable, they cant even solve the problems for existing customers they are happily releasing new cell phone. and hey  psychomania we do have the rights to get out frustrating emotion out, and i am pretty sure you too might have experienced da same problem with the n97 as other people.

My N97 is very stable, even with lots of apps installed.  It runs fast, smooth and has given me little bother so far. Never once have I had an out of memory error and only a couple of crashes.

So no I am not experiencing "da same problem" with my N97 as other people.  Not that everyone is experiencing the same problems as each other, many are perfectly happy with it.

My only gripes with the N97 are limited phone memory, unremovable trial apps and nokia UK being too slow to release updates.

People who say that nokia should take apples, HTCs, samsungs, blah blah etcs approach always make me laugh.  If you like the competitions way of doing things then buy their phones, not whinge to nokia about what they should do.  People have a choice what they buy, that is what reviews are for.

Re: Nokia, when will you learn?

i don't know how matttye is able to tell that all the problems he cites are OS related. i'm with psycho. if you don't like it don't buy it. i like symbian. i couldn't care less about ease of use or how intuitive it is. i'm quite prepared to spend 5 minutes learning how to use it i don't need it to be instinctivly obvious as soon as i take it out the box. and if i really liked the way the iPhone or HTC handsets worked i'd have bought one.

why would you buy a nokia and then moan that it should be more like another make??

There's no dignity in begging for kudos. Do it for the karma.

Re: Nokia, when will you learn?

well it seems like u have had a success with ur n97, then why dont u share some knowledge on how to go with the stability issue. as whenever i have like three application i.e. web page, email, acu weather on then when i switch on the maps you do find that application starts to shut down, phone often freeze up. the only alternative is to remove the bats. this happens like arund 5-8 times in a did.

Exactly, it really is amusing.  :smileyhappy:

@ harrios - bought sim free on launch day from www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk why is this relevant?

@ arvar - i've shared plenty of knowledge with people on these forums, about many models.

Just my suspicious nature as the question was never relevant to this thread in anyway at all.  Perhaps it's because I said something positive about the N97 and you appear to be a regular supporter of negative posts here?

I am a long time fan of Nokia. They make the best hardware and often the most feature packed software (albeit somewhat frustrating to use at times.) For example, the Nokia 5800xm has the best sound quality of all of the phones I have ever used.

I bought my phone after playing with my friends' 5800. I didn't realise how irritating it would be to use back then. I'm pretty sure nobody would complain if Nokia made the software easier to use :-)

Re: Nokia, when will you learn?

nokia is learning every day. perhaps not as fast as we would like it to, or in ways that we would prefer non the less they are on a learning curve. it is not without reason that nokia is a mobile telephony giant no matter how  you look at it.

now if you were not passionate about nokia - you would not complain. you would just move on to another brand and the chapter would be over. why do  you linger ? the anger and frustration is one of hope for the brand in the future is it not?????

saying you are done with it over and over again still does not translate into action and you leaving the brand or the forum....so what is it truly?

If this post answers your question, you can help others by clicking the green  accepted solution' button. Thanks much ! You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me !

Is this meant for me? Because I have never said I'm done with Nokia!

On a slightly more positive note, the X6 is confirmed to sport a capacitive touchscreen. HELL YEAH! :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Nokia, when will you learn?

I personally can't see what all the fuss is about with the capacitive screens.  I certainly don't miss the multitouch capability from the iPhone, in fact, at times, it was a pain in the bum.

The screen on my N97 is just as clear and sharp (sometimes more so) and it's as sensitive as the capacitive ones I've used.

Re: Nokia, when will you learn?

I too have no issues with my N97 and other than doing the basics which I guess most people have done like keeping firmware up-to-date (as best I can being in the UK!) and updating apps from OVI and installing them to E: there's not much else you can do.  Yes, I know there are others, but you get the idea!

Something that I will admit to doing which comes from being a previous iPhone user, is a daily reboot.  Every night before I get into bed, I reboot my N97 and stick it on charge.  My iPhone was never fully stable without at least one reboot a day and having had it for over 18 months, I guess it became a bit of a habit (tradition maybe!) which I now do with my N97.  It runs sweet as a nut and I don't suffer any of the out of memory errors, crashes or hangs so many are reporting.  You could try doing this too, it may well help.  You have nothing to lose by trying afterall.
