I just bought my 2nd Nokia symbian smartphone phone, the XM5800 for a week now since I accidentally broke my HTC Touch Viva. I had Nokia E50 and then I changed to HTC Windows Mobile phone and then changed back to Nokia again but it not quite a good experience.
I am a person who use internet on mobile a lot e.g. check the stocks, update the news, check e-mail and reading on various website. But the XM5800 internet browser is crashing very often. It was like 30-40 times in the first 2 days of usage. The firmware came with the box was 20.0.012. I updated it to 30.0.011 and it didn't solve the problem. I searched some webs and found many users of XM5800 & N97 had the problem. Some website suggested me to reset the phone so I do reset it with *#7370# and it crashed on the first internet browsing after the reset.
At last, I sent an email to Nokia Care for the solution and explained what I have done so far such as firmware upgrade and so on. They responsed by suggest me to bring the phone to Nokia care center and gave me the location without any details regarding to the problem. I didn’t expect this answer. I am sure, I am not the first one who had this problem. This is a very common one and you can find a lot of posts in this forum. At least, they should be able to give me some information regarding to the problem or the causes e.g. from firmware or something else. I don't know if this is a standard procedure for answering or they just don't know the problem or pretend not knowing it.
My old HTC has Opera Mobile 9.5 in the rom. Even the phone is slower than XM5800 (my old HTC equipped with OMAP 200 MHz compare to ARM11 434 MHz in XM5800), the browser is a lot more solid. It is slow and sluggish but it works.
If someone from Nokia get into this board and see my problem and other customers’ problems. Please consider solving it in the upcoming firmware. Even though I have little hope since the new firmware has something to do about widget not the problems. The XM5800 is not a new phone and this is not a new problem. When Windows Mobile 6.5 come out in the next couple of months, if my XM5800 still has this problem, I consider selling it and give up using Nokia phone for the rest my life.

Hello,
You might want to consider occasionally deleting your browser cache. Alternatively you can run Opera Mini v 4.2 on the 5800 quite happily.
I use the Opera browser most of the time, but my Nokia browser seems to be very robust and useful for flash sites or when I want to view the full native web page.

Thanks poirot. I also installed Opera mini but it still not as good web browsing (some of my favorite site didn't work well and it is not desktop like look) as Opera Mobile 9.5 or the XM5800 browser itself. If Nokia can fix crashing problem, I will be very happy and appreciate since I am quite satisfy with every other thing in the XM5800 except this one but it is a must function for me when I consider buying a phone. However, I don't know that it has this problem before I bought it.
One Kudos for poirot. Thank you.

Hi dextersilt
Actually my surfing experience via 3.5g or WLAN comes up with the same problem of crashing out on my 5800 too.
I am suggesting that it could most likely be the webpage you are trying to access.
Coz if I surf to some simple sites, it's not a problem (pretty fast too). But problems start when I access forums, pages with fluid information, or some scripting embedded.
Solution I have non. Sorry about that. I always thought the problem stems from the fact that the browser is not really like what we use on the PC. Something about how they interpret codes etc.
