Just goes to show...
The nokia people are here. They just don't like talking to the public. I happen to quite like my phone... Even if the service is nowhere near "FLAGSHIP".
ROFL.

Just relaying what I have been told. Don't shoot the messenger.
I am not in the business of spreading rumours.
No, not shooting at anybody
Just wanted to assure that NSU is going out as planned.

Thanks for that Jauhis,
I am mature enough not to be upset or offended.
Shoot all you like. A forum is a public place for airing views and FACTS.
Both Nokia store in London & Uk customer care hotline told me that N97 32g bought this week already have V20.
Can you either confirm or deny this?

Either you or your source have the facts wrong.
Nokia will provide PR2.0 as soon as it has been approved. Once approved, it will go to NSU, factories, service network and FOTA, in this order.
The estimate of end of October is still valid.
will you look into providing a full change log to consumers that spend over 450 pounds on your hand sets? so we know that problems are fixed instead of finding it out for ourselves?

Thankyou for quashing the rumours... 4 days to wait tops! ![]()
Sorry you had to read through some of the drivel on this thread ![]()
Echoing another post....when will v2 start to filter in on new handsets?

@Squarebear
You do realised nothing has been quashed...
If there is a serious problem found with v20 it can be un-approved and pulled off the servers. v12 anyone?

@ B9099
I was actually referring to the complainfest that was going on
It has all but dried up since that post was made..
Wasn't referring to you (and added a +1 to when the v2 will be on new handsets)

Hello everyone.
Just reading all the articles and decided to share with you...
I'm a huge nokia fan!!!
All my life i used only nokia phones!!! Started with 3210, had all kind of models (6680, N73 etc) now got N97...
As much as love nokia phones... this is my 5th N97 device!!!! I keep sending it for repairs and it still won't work properly...
Last friday i recieved a brand new N97 cause they said that it was impossible to fix the issues of the device...
And guess what.. this new one has even more problems!!!
I'll keep trying to get it fixed... i'm really running out of pations and options here...
These are the problems that i had with N97:
- loosen part(s) noise when shaking the device (from nokia repair center i found out that it's a loosen sliding mechanism spring)
- loudspeaker quality is unacceptable (i'm actually thinking about calling nokia center using loudspeaker so they can hear for themselfs what it's like... lol) and i'm not sure if it's fixable...
- constant connection error while making a phone call
- lock key button is loose and it feels like it's going to fall off
- bluetooth issue (can't connect to my PC and other cell devices)
- after placing a phone call front camera would come on randomly
- touch screen issue (randomly would not respond to touch (would have to close an application and start it over again); when dialing using a touch screen sometimes dials a wrong phone # (works perfect when using slide-out keyboard numbers)
- unstable charging (when the device is connected to the computer via USB cable (sometimes it is charging - sometimes it is not; battery indicator continue showing charging after unplugging from wall charger)
- back cover (does not sit properly) makes klicking noise while trying to use touch screen....
.... and these are just the biggest problems that really bugged me, there are a lot more...
My point is... if i spend around 700$ for a cell phone i expect to have a solid device that won't let me down in my everyday mobile life!
And what's really sad... is that after all the repaires the device is not in PERFECT condition... not even in a GOOD condition!!!
All that gives me an idea... total recall on NOKIA N97!
I'm not mad at nokia in general... i'm mad about nokia N97!!!! I'm not going to buy iphone or blackberry - i can't stand those, but i will have to wait and hope that nokia will come up with a good fix for N97 or some other device that we all will call a FLAGSHIP!!!

A Nokia Official has Posted:
"Nokia will provide PR2.0 as soon as it has been approved. Once approved, it will go to NSU, factories, service network and FOTA, in this order."
"The estimate of end of October is still valid."
It will first go to NSU - thats us - then the factories, then the Service Centre Network, then FOTA (over air update) - WHAT HE DIDNT SAY - Then it will go to all the different Authorities and Networks for testing and approval, then sent back to nokia for any changes to be made, then back for testing and approval. Finally NSU, Factories, Service Network, FOTA
That means it will be available to us on NSU before the factories get it, only when the factories get it will they load it onto new handsets, pack and ship them.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Assuming it does roll out by the end of October and assuming today is 1st November
You can go out and buy a new N97 Where and How you buy it will dictate which software you get or will be able to upgrade to.
Most unbranded Mainland European handsets will get v20.
History Dictates (look at thread "Campaign for equality" by Psycomania) that UK Unbranded handsets will be stuck at v12 for a few weeks yet.
All UK branded handsets will be on v11 or v12 for a while if not forever - it is up to the Networks..
When V20 comes out "by the end of October" - only about 20% of N97's will be able to have it - They dont tell you that so dont get too excited, you may never see it on your phone.
Just pay a visit to the Vodafone eForum and see - they have just struggled to get v12, v20 is probably next year for them.
Again, v20 this week is only for Virginal - non adultarated - Nokia N97 Phones. Once Nokia release v20 for those 20%, the rest is beyond their control, or so they say

My 2nd N97 arrived on Friday, after all this hype I will be returning it for a refund, it came with V10, eh have I missed something?
A brand new N97 direct from NOkia coming with their most troublesome firmware, how insulting.
I also will be selling my other N97 on Ebay, and I will never buy another Nokia, I have been with them form the beginning, 1161 was my first model, no more, they have taken my £449 and sent me a useless piece of sh*t, and in England we have rights, especially with distance selling, and items being fit for purpose.
So come on Nokia get you're fingers on a keyboard and explain why you are treating you're customers like idiots???????????

@ Anatman
i think its more to do with carriers having to autorise the firmware. for me having a uk code even unbranded will take a long time to see the update..
but v12 works very well there are only a few minor bugs apart fromt hat the n97 is very good. people are expecting to much from the v20 and will be let down when its not a super phone that does everything even pleasure you after the update! ;p

Yorkie,
What is the product code for that phone, you can find it on the sticker under the battery 05xxxxxx

Honestly guys...
Everybody here has had a proper rant at Nokia...
They are in the wrong...
The phone is a turkey... SO FAR...
But, look at the alternatives, Iphone is by far the most pretencious bit of kit you can buy... Featureless... The hardware is doodoo. The SE Satio looks to be a good phone (also S60v5, no hardware keyboard), but most have vowed never again to go with SE after the p990i... The list continues.
I am starting to actually like my phone. It's far from perfect. But if remember my N95 8gb, that was a sack of donkey doo before the FW was updated.
Can anyone actually say hand on heart that their N97 doesn't deserve a second chance (v20)? ;-)
I am willing to change my sig WHEN the phone works as advertised. But again I am saying all this in the hope that the N97 doesn't become the forgotten flagship phone after V20.

Its a sad day when the N97 (which has the capability to be a truly amazing device) falls flat on its face in front of the rancid iPhone due to software issues!
I would never ever ever consider getting an iPhone but this Nokia malarkey is obscene!

N97 Daily Disaster Diary 26/10/2009
I think I can come up with a daily disaster storey to keep you all amused while the holy 2.xx firmware is coming (that will make my meek and worthless N97 strong and mighty) so heres the first one.
Switch on maps, straight away get the green bar that i have a GPS connection (yea the great god noka nogood is smiling on me today)
I put in the city and it prompts for the correct city (yes great)
Start typng the street and again, it prompts me with the correct street,(yes yes)
Click "drive to" and "searching online" pops up (you have to search online now if you havnt been there so it downloads that bit of the map)
It comes up "no match found" what the **bleeping***bleep** how can that be it prompted me with the city and street so logically they must exist.
So I do it again from the begining, but again, "no match found" will v2.xxx solve this latest bit of stupidiy?
In any case I have lost the GPS by now so I pick my paper map look up where I am going and get there half an hour late thanks to great god noka nogood
I cant say the N97 is useless though, its a great paper weight to keep my map open at the correct page.
Just by the by why do we now need to backspace out the previous entry in maps -
before you clicked on say, city and it would be highlighted - when you started typing that old entry would disappear and the new one would appear as you typed.
Now you have to move the curser to the end of the line and manually backspace each letter then start typing the new entry. The old way was better and quicker. put that in your 2.xxx list as well.
In fact if I send my 3 year old N95 to you and you just whack a touch screen on it i will be happy as everything works fine on that phone.
