I managed to contact a engineer in the bussiness development department at nokia in finland, we spoke very briefly, he advised that the new software will most likely be released on 12-15 December 2009. Apparently it will be amazing, I asked for some beta software and he refused.....

I'm not validating this rumour but Nokia does have a very bizarre perception of timeframes.

eg Ovi Suite for Mac "Coming Soon"...one year later it's still vapourware.

If the 2.0 version is NOT showing big difference in stability and perfomance I will demand a refund cause this is like buying a car with 4 cylinder where only 2 works .... and that is refunable !

It told me to update something before update with the new software....

I downloaded this thing (FOTA settings) and now i see it on the application installed....

The question is ....

What is FOTA settings? What is used for ? How to use it ?

Guys 1st up nokia is suesing apple alleging that the iphone infringes Nokia's patent foUMTS ,WLAN and GSM , that has  nothing to do with the firmware update Im in canada i, i've been using nokia's for bout 9yrs , i love my n97 , i have no love for the iphone  . I think the iphone is a peice of **bleep** (excuse my french), but its the top smart phone in canada and in the US not forgetting the blackberry's and the ,htc's

I find the symbian OS to be far superior but at this point in my life i must say the iphone sounds more tempting than waiting for a fw that i might grow to mid life then old then die still waiting . The iphone does what they advertise it to be capable of handling , u can't really multi task on the iphone which is a big no for me ,but the lil that it does do it does it simlessly which is more than i can say for my much loved n97 . Im just **bleep** and feel jooped outta my $700+tx i had to waste on what i feel is a waiting game , i know some pple say its not easy to just roll out a fw but then they shouldnt ask for such a lumpsum of change for a divice that im having to wait for a fw . i just feel for the money that my fellow canadians and americans had to pay (coz as y'll knw this handset was not subsidized by any service providers down here) so we all paid a pretty penny to wait get a half thought device , sad but true . I can safly tell y'll that the n97 was deffinatly my last nokia handset.                                                                                                                                                                If this is nokia's flgship phone , they really gotta get their game faces on ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,WORST OF I DON'T LIKE THAT I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THIS FW  THAT I FEEL I NEED TO AT LEAST MAKE MY N97 RUN SMOOTH LIKE OTHER MOBILES ...... All nokia have done is leave us all here totally in the dark guesing and wishing for an unproven update that might not even solve half of the issues.

I’m agreeing with you here. My phone isn’t even working as it should as a phone when used as speakerphone. I have contacted Nokia Customers Care, en they replay that they didn’t know about this issue. That’s plain **bleep**! I posted a link to them, so they could read from a forum where people complaining about dropouts of sound/voice for the people trying to listen to what I say when using the phone as speakerphone. If they don’t fix this issue, maybe I will be the one that sues them?

If every one on the forum who has had nothing but problems with there n97 clubbed together maybe we could take some legal action against nokia. As things are, nokia are not even listening to the complaints, then again maybe they are but are not even bothered to get a rep on the forum to answer any of the questions and thoughts  of the consumer!

up  untill now I feel each and every one of us has been sadly been ripped off for a flagship nokia product thats failed in the most basic of functions! I am going to speak to a few consumer groups and see where i stand on taking legal action.

Its all good getting a new firmware but what about the months of misery and feeling that your hard earnt cash has just been flushed down the toilet, Its embaressing that nokia have nothing to say or answer for ! ! !

If anyone is intrested in clubbing together to take action pm me.

Sign me up 2, I also have problems with the speaker phone!!! Also, 2 weeks later, scratches on the camera LENSE, met another guy that complained bitterly about this!!!!

my nokia N97 reset  repeated ly and at last it will be turned off......!!!!

I have to agree with jasonski, Nokia should not be selling phones of this price range that have so many bugs.

 I will look into making a claim against Nokia for selling me a phone thats just not upto the task i bought it for. 

It wouls be better if Nokia would just post somekind comment on this forum......but no were just the little people who buy there **bleep** products.
