I wonder if other Nokia N97 users could spare a little time to help me with my N97 speaker problem.
As users can see from my previous posts on this site,I have been having problems with my N97 when the phone is in speakerphone mode.
Could anybody who has had problems,any problems with their speakers kindly Private Mail me with details of defect as I am trying to assess just how prevalent this problem is.
I have suffered this same problem on my N97 even after it went back to Nokia on 3 occasions for repair and a replacement that they sent to me also suffered from this fault.

This is for speaker problems only please

i got the same problem here

after replacing a new N97, same problem still occure.

Then went to Nokia Care center they replaced the motherboard for me. NO IMPROVEMENT!

i couldn't believe nokia have such problem on their phone.

my previous Sony E. phones work great with speaker phone call when i drive, loud and clear.

Same problem here! I can here the other party clearly but they don't seem to hear me very well.

I have that too, the speaker itself is good, but the microphone (or the software controlling it) is **bleep**.

As soon as I switch back to handset the mike is fine.

It appears that when you go to Loudspeaker mode the software turns down the microphone sensitivity. That leads me to believe that it is a firmware issue.

Perhaps Nokia would like to tell us if this issue is addressed in v20.

Are they aware of this issue?

Am I wrong and it is a Hardware Fault? If so tell us !!!

The microphone on the N97 turns off only when the other person is talking or they have background noise.

So in my case if I phone my daughter and my grandchild is making noise she is unable to hear me as the sound coming into the N97 cuts the microphone.

I think the mic for opened phone is under the space button. Am I right?

Got the same issue. If not v20 improves a lot - i will buy a htc tp2. The speakerphone system on that device is fantastic.

I really need the speakerphonesystem to work.

I had to return two of the handsets because of the same problem. Last week I bought an N97 which worked fine except for when I used the speaker phone. Once it was turned on the party on the other side of the call would say I was "breaking up" and overall call quality was poor. I returned that handset and tried the replacement. The same problem occured. I had to return that one too. Overall, the speakerphone was also criminally low in volume, but certainly much softer than my N958GB which had a fantastic loud speaker.

Yes I have the same problem to with my N97 - Speaker Phone. I have updated to the latest revision however still no better. You would have thought Nokia releasing one of their top of the range phones could have at least spent time quality testing such a simple feature. Maybe they need to release an advice to all owners on how they propose to fix this issue.

Nokia any comments ?

the speaker problems seem got fix after updated to firmware v20, anyone tried it and is it okay?

however the quality can't say it's very good.. it's acceptable... a lot better than before.

v21.0.045 installed, still nothin... how come nobody noticed this before release?!

This has been a known issue for some time, and it still prevalent on the latest firmware (although not as bad) this issue needs to be fixed!
