I am wondering if anyone faced this.
I tried to check if there is new update for my Nokia N96.
as Nokia saying "To find the latest available device software update, you need your device’s product code. The code is printed on the white label beneath the battery and will look similar to this CODE: 0520001"
my code is 0555803. Surprising it show me [B]"Latest available software for Nokia N78, product code 0555803 Version: 12.046"[/B]
additional the WLAN serial on the sticker is different from the one i can get from the phone by using the command *#62209526#. but the IMEI on the sticker is the same as the one on the phone which i get with *#06#

I am doubting i got Chinese phone with "Made in Finland" sticker

I do appreciate any explanations for that.

which country you are living? and where did you purchase your phone?

I am wondering if at present a Nokia copied phone is so advance. Since if it is real Nokia phone, none of this should not happen.

If so goto your i2 dealer ASAP. You have to make strong demand for the explanation.

Another test you can try is to enter the IMEI number of the phone in this page and see what it replies:

If this tool also says that you have an N78 then you might want to have "a little chat" with the retailer and also let Nokia Egypt know that they have a retailer selling dodgy phones.

one more thing, i think "Nokia Software update" depend on the product to identify the model to get the firmware updates. i did update twice for my Nokia N96 to v11 and v12 so i think no problem in the internal prodcut code on the phone.

do you know any command can show me the internal prodcut code to compare it with the one on the sticker?

There is software available that will display the internal product code. However, it is software that is not approved by Nokia and it cannot be discussed here. You'll have to use your favourite search engine and look for it yourself.

It's interesting that you bring up this topic because I have just heard two weeks ago about stories that in some regions some dealers make their own labels and put it over the original Nokia labels to cover up the fact that the phones were manufactured in China. So the product is proper from Nokia but the label is fake.

I think yours is the same case.

I am confusing. You mean Nokia Dealer over there is selling fake Nokia phones!! This is very abnormal situation and you should demand for your right. In my country, all fake Nokias are being sold by minor phone importer only.

PS: I still really want to know if your phone is fake or not??!!

My understanding is that what is happening is

In the area Egypt there is a strong belief in the urban legend that the Nokia Phones made in China are inferior to the ones made in Finland, so much so that there is a $20 mark-up on the Finish Manufactured Phones

This Dealer has taken a genuine N96 manufactured in China and replaced the label to indicate it was made in Finland so that he can charge the extra, he botched the product code on the label however so that it indicates the phones an N78which is how he was found out

This retailer messing around with product identification labels and charging a premium for Finnish-made handsets isn't helping to kill the urban legend, either.

This seller must be very stupid or blind, to sticked on false labels on original product. I would claim him for some kind of compensation. Additionally he, as a fraudulent seller, should lose forever Nokia official dealer licence.
No one knows what he would sell as next.
