Nokia N95 8gb; Overall Disaster!

Hello there,

I wished i had checked all these posts before posting they were really helpful for the N95 8gb model. If i did, i wouldnt go and get it.

I ve been a Nokia user for 9 years now and i was always extremely satisfied with all my previous models. You all know about the common problems of this phone already i believe therefore am not going to repeat those but something else which is of VITAL importance in my opinion and has not been mentioned [i m sorry if it has but there are so many posts i couldnt check them all :smileywink:]

So apart from all the other problems just tell me how the *bleep* can a Slide phone which is supposed to be the 5*, deluxe, superb, best (or whatever you wanna call it)phone on the market and one of the most expensive ones NOT have a slider functionality???? I mean, although i am in UK i went to Nokia and bought this FOR £500 because i finish my studies in 3 months and i am going back home so i couldnt get a contract. The funny thing: i also bought my fiancee the same day the N81 for £300 and it does have that functionality....

By functionality i mean when you talk on the phone and you finish and take the slider down it doesnt hang up if the person on the other end doesnt hang up either. You still have to press the red button like a normal non-slider phone....DISASTER!

Many people are complaining about this just search the web...So tell us Nokia...why did i spent 500 quid on a slider phone that doesnt perform slider functionality. Its ridiculous and to some extend you could also say its a bit fraudulent.... A slider phone SHOULD be a slider phone end of story....

THIS is what you should put on your priority list to fix if that can be done by firmware (i m not sure because i know nothing about this) and then everything else...

Its designed for multi-tasking. Some people might be browsing the net while on the phone and may want to use landscape mode.

There is a small freeware application that allows you to slide hang up, just google it.

:smileywink: i fell on the floor laughing with your reply (provided of course that the first 3 lines were said in a sarcastic manner)

Thanks for your reply mate i am really grateful and i appreciate your help... But it still seems ridiculous to me to go and pay £500 and then sit and pretend i am a programmer in order to sort this out all by myself. If i had the time and knowledge to do so i would have initiated a mobile company myself :smileywink: Too bad am a barrister(lawyer)...

PLEASE dont be offended... I GREATLY APPRECIATE your help honestly and THANK YOU.. The comments i am making are posed for Nokia not for you because they are OBLIGED to do something about it...

Anyone reading this post dont get me wrong. I am a Nokia fan as i stated as well and i know the phone is good. I always buy Nokia phones since my first handset; all i am saying is that this is unacceptable and Nokia must take action. We all need to strive for anything we buy to see that it abides with quality. (otherwise they should state that this is a slider phone which in reality isnt)

I just wish i had my barrister's licence right now... :smileywink: Too bad however; three more months...

Again, thanks for your reply

Well, the N95 8gb is soon to be outdated by the N96...

Yes i know that as well. But i have some very reliable info that it will be released in August. I couldnt stay for 5 more months with my 2 year old rubbish N73 :smileywink:

NB No offence, the N73 in my opinion is the best phone i ever got even now that i have the N95-2. By rubbish i mean that i abused it badly :smileywink:. And for me, is a miracle that i stayed with the same for 2 years since i am addicted with prestigious mobiles and before that i used to change phone every 6 months and buy the most expensive smart phone out there. Thus, this fact speaks for itself

Re: Nokia N95 8gb; Overall Disaster!

i would hate to have the slider end my calls. i remember when i had the matrix phone when it first came out (cant remember the number just that it had snake 2) i was always ending my calls by accident.

the n95 8gb is a wonderful phone- it is attractive-a classic nokia design. i'm no expert but have read many posts on the forum. the slide function has been discussed on many occasions.it is really not an issue:smileywink:

If you're looking for a new phone, I'd suggest the N82. It's a bit cheaper than the N95, has most of the same functions, and is a candybar phone.

Next time you buy a phone, the sliders, dear Mr. barrister, please check if the phone ends the end call if you slide shut.
It is somewhat wrong to presume things will work as we intend it to.

Re: Nokia N95 8gb; Overall Disaster!

Suprise suprise...And to think at the beginning i was happy as ithought that this forum is full of mature people were this kind "offensive with nothing better to do" people do not exist.

And all of you dont get offended that much; i already SAID that this is a brilliant phone.

Now dear MR.Babdi its YOU who its wrong. Imagine you go to Land Rover (in our case a nokia) and buy a car which has a 4x4 gear **bleep** in it. You take it, go up the mountains and suddenly discover there is NO 4x4 functionality; the **bleep** its just there because the manufacturers decided that it made the car look more beautiful. That, mate, is "not" something you presumed when you bought the car its "common sense". Common sense = slider "with" slider functionality. Thats what all mobile manufacturers do. I did not presume anything; on the contrary, its Nokias fault because by using the slider on the phone the impression of any human being with "common sense" and general knowledge of slider phones would be the same as mine.

And as i have mentioned earlier, i am a big fan of nokia as well. Thus, the trust I have for them didnt make me suspicious so as to ask such a ridiculous question before i bought it because this is a first! Hence, save the "talk talk" Babdi because i am here to make my criticism in the hope that Nokia will sort this out with a firmware. I didnt come here and be aggresive nor offensive. Nor did i say that the phone is not good; check my previous posts. The phone is superb i just want a fix for this thats all and this requirement is actually owed to any slider user.

As for the other comments: well i understand that many people may not mind, but there are so many also who DO mind by this inappropriateness. Just search the web and you will find out.

For the person that told me about that software to fix this, which i am really greatful to, i ve found it but the problem is that a user is not allowed to get that signed anymore.

Do you have any other solution or can anybody sign this for me?

Thanks

The rover says it is a 4 x 4. So if it is not 4 x 4 then your are right. Here Nokia never said it will close the call when you slide shut.
Common sense says that dont presume certain things to exist if the manufacturer does not say about it.
Well good luck next time you buy a Mokia :smileyhappy: Cheers !

Re: Nokia N95 8gb; Overall Disaster!

My friend, you are still wrong. Common sense = predetermined knowledge. Everyone knows why a slider phone IS a slider phone. No manufacturer has ever said in their specification that the slider performs this. Its "common sense" from day 1 that a slider phone was invented and that this is what it is supposed to do. That it is what it was invented to perform. All the slider phones created = thats what they do. THATS common sense, thats what all the slide phones DO up to now and that is what us the general public know that they do. :smileywink:

Even in this case Nokia is still wrong. They should actually put on the phone's specification that the slider is just on the phone as a cosmetic factor.

And when i gave the example of the Land Rover, you still dont get it. Imagine you go back to Land Rover and they tell you its not our fault you should have asked whether it had a 4x4 functionality. Its just there but without functionality.

I think you need to redetermine common sense :smileywink:

Cheers mate

I guess there is no way as this would involve slight hardware changes. They would have to put a sensor which would enable the phone to close the call when we slide shut :smileymad:
