Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

Hi, I just got a new N93 on contract with O2 and my phone constantly crashes, reboots and freezes, I take it this is not normal for a highly praised phone?

The other thing is my nephew has a N80 and we decided to check out the picture quality for photos. We took pictures with the same settings on both phones but on the N93 the quality is so poor...

ie. Say you took a photo of an object in reasonable lighting and flash is used, while the picture taken from a N80 with flash set to auto or on, is perfect. But on the N93 with flash set to on or auto its totally disappointing the contrast is out, lighting is off etc...

Does this indicate that the phone I have is faulty?
Or does it just need a Firmware update?

If its the later can I preform the firmware update myself as I been waiting in line for this phone for about a month and I only had it now for 1 day and I am disappointed... :smileysad: Thanks for reading

Yeah... It needs SW upgrade, but a lot of SW upgrades. By 08/2007 it gonna be a great camera phone... untill then, is just a problem.

Re: Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

Seems like you got a defect unit. So far only 1 firmware version is available and those i know who got the phone are pretty happy with its performance.

Re: Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

Thank you, for the input regarding the problems I am having with my new N93.

So at present I am sitting with a 50 - 50 view, in that it could be:

1- Firmware updated needed but there isn't one at present.
2- I have a faulty unit, which means I need to send it back.

Ok this may sound stupid, but if I was to send the unit back as a faulty item is there a way for me at present to run test on it or is there a way for me to be 100% correct in that it is defective?
Don't want to send it back and then get charged for time wasting.

Does anyone out there who already has a N93 when they take pictures of poorly lit environments does the picture look "dark" or does the flash takes care of it and makes the picture look good?

Also can you post pictures to this forum? If you can I could actually show what I mean by the poor picture quality I get with the N93...

Once again Thanks for reading... :'(

Re: Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

Hi,

I am on O2 UK

The phone crashes during music playback, picture view (from the ones taken) and copying files from one location to another.

When view it freezes then if you leave it for a while it reboots itself same with copying.

But then you listen to music it freezes and won't reboot. Thanks

Re: Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

Hi,

SW upgrade might help to improve the situation. You can check below webpage. N93 might be there soon.

Hi allante666

Unless an O2 sales manager pop in, You not likely to get this kind of information here, or accurate information. You are better contacting O2 direct and they should be able to advise you whether or not they will support this handset.

all that can be confirm that it has been released for commercial sale.

Re: Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

going back to the problems described at the start of this thread, I put my friends brand new SIM in and the phone was a lot more stable..... ie... I was UNABLE to crash it...

..so it seems like the problem I was having was due to an old SIM card, and not the phone.. thank goodness.. I've ordered a new SIM so I'll be able to use my phone again hurrah!

Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

Hi,

Thank you for all the postings and comments etc... I got my N93 online O2 UK don't have them yet for sale or contract... I got it from www.mobileshop.com I was going to get from from www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk (they are part of the Carphone Warehouse Group) but they called me back to say they won't be getting it.

The phone its nice, but the crashing, freezing and rebooting is awful. Also if you take pictures in poor lighting the quality is so bad it looks like it was taken from a digi cam with less than a 1meg pix lens.

I have also a Ericsson W900i it has a 2meg pix camera taking pics it poor lightings it brilliant same goes for the N80 which my nephew has, but on the N93 the flash does not seem to kick in or when it does the pictures taken it like blair witch project videos poor and grainy and all this hype about a "Carl Zeiss" lens its just does not live up to the hype at all. And yes I have tried taking pics with the flash turned on instead of auto no difference.

Looks like Nokia you have to do more testing and these N93 "Carl Zeiis" lens hype its sounds more like a Gimmick instead...

Re: Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

What does seam to me to be a touch strange is that if you change the resolution to 2Mpx the image quality is great. Its as though its a 2Mpx camera with software to interpolate the image to 3Mpx.

Re: Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

I'm here to confirm on the many problems of the new Nokia "flagship" smartphone, I'm from greece, We are used to having problems here because of the local distributor but in this case, its just unbelievable how many problems and missing software the phone has and lacks, I'm really dissapointed having spend 730 Euros on this phone, and the crazy thing is, the problems are becoming more and more in the N series, the series which is supposed to earn more customers and to impress them, and also the other competetive companies...

Re: Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

I totally agree, as my first mobile years ago was a Nokia i think it was a 8820 but then it when i upgraded to the mobile which had a radio things went bad and I then moved to Sony Ericsson which was great. But after so long I thought maybe Nokia is not back on track I think I made a very bad move...

The manual on page 15 even shows and tells you to thread a lanyard to keep the lens cap safe etc... but there is no lanyard with the phone at all and somehow no one in the mobile shop or Nokia seems to know what I am talking about when I ask them that lens cap lanyard does it come with the phone or is it an extra the respone from the mobile shop is you get what the contents tell you, you get, from Nokia it is silent response...

Well I just to let you know, I really now hate this phone its not really that good I have it now for less than 3 weeks and already the cover LCD has dust particles inside it make this phone look like its a childs toy poorly designed, poorly put together and poor performace all this hype is just propaganda....

Once my contract is up next year I am going back to Sony Ericsson a really good mobile phone company which works and does not crash, reboots, freezes or dust gets in behind the LCD in less than a month I hate NOKIA...!!!

Re: Nokia N93 Crashing and Poor Photos

what a wonderfully constructive message! :smileyhappy:

instead of posting here, have you considered raising this as a complaint with nokia themselves?

the pair of you seem to have valid reasons to complain directly to them - if you let them know you are not happy and you think things are missing from your phones package, they will be able to do something about it.

but if you dont, then they will never know...
