Re: Nokia N91 - am now on my 3rd Handset !! - NEED HELP PLEASE -

Hi!

I am also on my third handset, but just waiting delivery of a replacement phone - this time an N73...

I've been totally fed up with all the problems on the phone, in particular the 'freezing' of it, which has meant I have lost business.

I have not downloaded any software or carried out anything that you can't do with them out of the box.

I have done my research, and spoken with Nokia directly and the various places they sent me to, Vodafone technical, Nokia service centres etc and from all the confusing information it appears that the problems I am having result from the software. However, the service centres have not been able to update, one of which I attended could not even connect the N91 to their systems!!! Vodafone confirmed to me yesterday that they are stopping selling the N91 and N80 due to problems, they are just going to sell off their runout stock and thats it.

Its a shame because if the phone actually worked it would be great.

Here's hoping the N73 works better, the only downside of this is I need to buy a decent memory card to get the music capabilities and will have to do without wifi.

Summary from my experience - N91 - great phone, poorly executed.

Re: Nokia N91 - am now on my 3rd Handset !! - NEED HELP PLEASE -

I have used Sony for the last 6 years if not longer, and now gone back to Nokia for the N91...and I looked around, and chopped in the faulty N91 for the N73 thats been working more than fine...gonna get a couple of 2gb cards for it, then I can carry the same music as the N91 but at least in a phone that works.

And to let you know, I had problems with a couple of my Sony's too over the last couple of years, its not just a Nokia thing.

I think there are companies out there, like Nokia and Sony, who are doing their best to push boundaries. Its just sometimes they just can't get their act together properly on a product, releasing it maybe a bit too early in the testing, which is a shame, but I would hate them to stop pushing...thats the only reason why we're as far ahead with phone technology as we are.

I'm a phone lover, not a Nokia lover, its just that in my opinion at the moment Nokia have a couple of the best products out there.

Micaradu, I echo Karim.

I have received some good advice from reading posts on this forum, and nearly every one is positive, even if they are being negative - its about getting info out there. Thanks Nokia, this is one of the best ways to get the info that counts.

The latest version of sw is 2.00.052. I was just released and it is great. It also supports windows drm finally. I called Vodafone and the are not stopping sales of N91 or N80 and in fact are in the process of testing and approving 2.00.052. Vodafone UK at least passed on testing 1.10 (i suspect too much work so they waited for WDRM) so that is why vodafone could not update your device. I got mine retail.

Re: Nokia N91 - am now on my 3rd Handset !! - NEED HELP PLEASE -

In my opinion, don't believe a word that Vodafone tell you. I've been given the runaround quite nicely by them, even though I have the correct information from Nokia.

Shame, as they have in my experience, and definately in my work/home area, the best coverage.

But they told me they were just running out the Nokia N91 and would not be getting any more. Vodafone technical told me that they did not have any latest software release, and none were in for testing (the individual networks give approval and load on their own firmware - thats why the issues vary between networks).

I spoke with a couple of friends of mine within Vodafone, one of which a retail shop manager, and they confirmed the same as I have written above.

My advice would be to not purchase an N91 on the Vodafone network, unless they do a complete turnaround, stock the phone again with the updated software with the problems solved.

I've now had the N73 for a few days and well used it already, not a single problem to report, and its also alot easier to use! A great phone so far, and I'm very pleased I swapped.
