Nokia N8

So what you guys think about the Nokia N8. Its about damn time huh? I'm a bit disappointed they didn't use a better processor, I mean come on ARM 11 680 MHz processor??? You'd think after N97 they put a solid 1Ghz processor in there but guess not, I was hoping to see more than 256MB RAM I mean come on all these phones are coming out with 400+ MB ram. anyone got more to add?

Re: Nokia N8

There's a thread a bit further down the page. Regarding your particular queries, the N8 isn't quite at the top of the Nseries range. Given the really good camera and screen, a mid-to-high-end processor and memory spec was probably to be expected. No doubt there will be an N9 and N10 which pull out all the stops, although you can be expected to pay appropriately. :smileywink:

Re: Nokia N8

With the separate chip for graphics support it doesn't need a big primary processor

From the demo's I've seen even with the pre production firmware

even with 7 or 8 apps running in the background the phone still apears sharp and responsive,

Re: Nokia N8

looks to me that Symbian ^ 3 has inherited some S^1  problems watch this video memory full message at 40 seconds in, system error message at 6.31 all too familiar problems.

Re: Nokia N8

to be honest, im quite impressed with the n8. with some of the multitasking, its smoothness and speed is on par with my n900 running at 1ghz. the kinetic scrolling looks a lot smoother, and seems to be integrated better.

but i still prefer the n900 for a lot of things.

hmm, now i just need to find out more about the elusive n9.

Re: Nokia N8

@phatdumi please note that the phone is still running on development software and not the release version, most tech experts, even the Americans are very impressed, wait and see :smileywink:

You right all we can do is wait.  Not planning on getting one, thinking S^4 devises but will use N8 feedback to judge whether Nokia having been paying attention.

Cheers.

Re: Nokia N8

I live in the US and have been using Nokia for a few years now, started w/ E61i to E71 to E75 then to N97, and these are just the ones I've owned.  While i am excited about the N8 i have to seriously wonder if it is even worth the wait. I'm aware of it having more than one processor, but a device that's supposed to be able to do so much is still going to have issues w/ only a 600Mhz Processor i believe. When i use a device as good as a nokia, i try to discover the max potential. I'd like to hear peoples opinion on Symbian vs. Android. What do you think? Could you help me figure out why i have this niggling, yet growing feeling that android is the way to go? Thanks.

Re: Nokia N8

Symbian vs Android is basically:

1. Functional features are the same. What one can do, the other can do. The difference is whether its a separately acquired app or in built

2. Android is more touch friendly and looks better.

3. Android phones also have better hardware in terms of processors, but Symbian OS also tends to be lighter most of the time, having less graphics and eye candy.

Re: Nokia N8

I want to buy new nokia and I think about this one. It has what I looking for - design, good browser and Wi-Fi, lot of apps but I want to listen music and watch videos too. So Im interest if it has stereo speakers or only mono? Thanks.

Re: Nokia N8

I liked the X6, it was more stable and the screen was really good, and the internal phone memory was good enough for updates and even install a few apps there.

I consider the N8 my next phone too, I love the idea of hosting USB memories and HDMI output

Re: Nokia N8

It has monospeakers. Its not a music phone per se, but a camera phone, so stereo speakers are not a big requirement in the design.

Re: Nokia N8

Really don't see stereo speakers as either a plus or a minus, on a phone there is very little benefit, to get a decent music experience you need a decent set of headphones or powered external speakers, and from my very limited knowledge, the sound from the N8 is just as powerful a feature as the Camera (Dolby surround 5.1 !!!!!!!!) But obviously, anyone desperate to have two small speakers less then four inches apart should avoid this handset like the plague !!

Re: Nokia N8

In my experience on phones, when you push mono speakers to the 90% and 100% levels, the sound starts to get a little distorted, unlike stereo speakers which retain clarity even at max output. Other than that, I dont think the difference at 60-80% as too big to worry about. I prefer using headsets anyway.
