Re: Nokia N8, RM-596 Symbian^3 Keyboard and Font - Language Support

Yeah! I'm using PlusJ. (But Ovi store crashes now crashes my phone.)
I downloaded Nokia Suite and followed the Belle installation instructions, but at one point it was hanging for around 10 minutes. So even though it said "Do not touch phone during this process" I touched it and selected OK at the language selection screen. I didn't see Japanese on that menu, but do you think that could have caused the problem?

@zellis1, how did you pay for PlusJ? How much? I need it too but I do not know which site to go to. On the PlusJ page, there are many links of "resellers" but I am not sure which one is good.

I am not sure about Ovi Store crashing on Belle due to PlusJ. Does it crash when you call to type?

Japanese will not be in the "Language Selection" menu. I have an N8 059D111 North American Variant. Surprisingly, the Belle Update installs "Nokia Fonts", for my variant at least... it default installs the font to read/write Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Japanese.

Not Korean though so I am still sleuthing on how to "trick" the Font Linking program Belle uses from Monotype to recognize the Nokia Korean Font.

I was using my company Blackberry for work, but it got stolen, so now I'm back on the old N8. I love the N8 but it is not good for Japanese support.
I just downloaded Swype yesterday, but still trying to figure out how to make it do Japanese input...>sigh<

SWYPE does not have Japanese Input Support

Maybe this Blog in Japanese might help you: http://blog.tagashira.com/article/52365057.html

I used MTREND, paid by fax (but I think you could also e-mail the pdf back to them)
$50 US

My Opera mini browser also no longer works. Maybe I should re-install Belle...arghhh

It is important to note what your Qt version is in all this mess.

Did you have to re-install Plus J after Belle Update?

Dunno... sorry. As I mentioned, Qt 4.7.1, all versions prior to 4.7.3 has problems, huge problems with 'external fonts' that causes all Qt applications to crash, that means Panorama, Ovi/Nokia Store... and a whole bunch more.

I have not experienced nor observed this behaviour since Qt 4.7.3 and above. Belle is supposed to come with 4.7.4 but I wonder what your version is.

Which location did you install the Plus J Fonts?

Thanks -- Good Luck

Re: Nokia N8, RM-596 Symbian^3 Keyboard and Font - Language Support

Thanks...

cannot run Qtinfo for some reason. I downloaded the file from 4shared because ovi store doesn't work. When I installed it and tried to run Qtinfo, my phone freezes, then restarts (just like ovi store)

Nokia Sync on my PC doesn't tell me anything about Qt either. Is there another way to check my version of Qt?

I saved PlusJ to my SD card F drive (following the install instructions).
Should I uninstall and reinstall on E:?

@zellis1

Yes, all Qt apps with crash. This is what I suggest you do. Just to try it out.

a) Uninstall the fonts that Plus J told you to install.

b) Uninstall Plus J

c) Go to a Japanese website or look for anything with Japanese characters in your phone. Can you still read Japanese?

d) Can you run QtInfo now?

e) If successful, can you get your Qt version? Because Qt is not shown in Installed Applications, there is no other sane way of doing it to get your Qt Info.

f) If without Plus J, you can still view Japanese text.

g) Install Plus J (without the fonts). I am not sure what Plus J needs the fonts.

h) If you have Qt version lower than Qt 4.7.4, here's a download link:

Let me know...

Re: Nokia N8, RM-596 Symbian^3 Keyboard and Font - Language Support

Hey guys,

Just want to chime in. I just want to add that I use +J for S60 on my N8 running Belle. It is working fine in portrait mode but not landscape mode. I did not install the fonts included with +J for S60. I'm using the fonts that are builtin on Belle.

Hope that helps. Cheers.

@esanker, then Qt apps like Nokia Store... etc. does not crash? @zellis1 should take note. ;-)

No Nokia Store crashes as long as you don't install the fonts for +J for S60. I've been using it since Anna.

Re: Nokia N8, RM-596 Symbian^3 Keyboard and Font - Language Support

@childofthewo
sorry for the delayed reply...i had zero chance to try the uninstall until now. it takes me a long time to figure out this stuff, I didn't even know how do uninstall.

Anyway I did it. web browser can read 99.9% Japanese characters, but I saw a few "boxes" instead of text, don't know why.
Qt info now works, 4.7.4!
I will now try to replace PlusJ. the PlusJ website says to use the SD card as install location, so I'll do it there again but without the fonts.

@esanker Mine never worked in landscape mode either. Kinda annoying, but i love be able to text with one hand while riding the subway! LOL

@everyone -- thanks for all the tips. I hope it works

I will post some notes on Font Change and Font Linking once I test out my theory.

Did the reinstall the other day -- it's been working fine. (I miss Swype, though, very hard to switch between +J input & Swype so I just keep +J running.)
But the store works now!
