Does anybony know why the Nokia Maps application (for example on N95) needs to use the network? I mean if you already have all the maps loaded on the phone? Does it use it for locating? Or updating? Or what?

If you have the Maps loaded on your memory card, it should not need to use the network.

It will of course need a GPS location so that it knows where you are. Go into settings to change the network search settings

I´m asking because sometimes while navigating it starts using the network like without any reason. And the first time you start the application it says: "Network connection is needed for a exact location". This is why i´m wondering if it uses the connection to something else then to loading the maps. Just of pure interest...

I would imagine you are using A-GPS (are you using V20??).

If you are, you can turn this setting off to use only the GPS.

A-GPS uses the internet to get the satelite location info so that your GPS locks on fasterhence the need for a network connection when using that method.

It will take a little longer to get a lock without it but as long as you are not moving and have a clear view of the sky, you should not be too bad.
