Any one else getting this - When I send an SMS to someone, I get an error saying "Messaging: feature not supported". When I hit send again it will go. No problem there as such, BUT - the message is listed as being sent to someone else, and tagged onto the end of the message I just sent is an old message to that someone else. However, the message goes to the person you originally intended and is listed as such in the Log.

Sounds complicated so here is an example.

In my conversations (now called messaging in Belle) there may be a message thread to, for example, Steve. One of the messages I sent ages ago may read "thanks for lending me that spanner it worked a treat".

I compose a message to another mate Brian, "meet you down the pub in 30 minutes?". I hit send and the error "messaging: feature not supported" pops up. Message is still there to be sent so I try hitting send again and it disappears, but does not show up in Brian's messaging thread. Instead, in Steve's thread will be the conjoined message "meet you down the pub in 30 minutes? thanks for lending me that spanner it worked a treat" !!

However, Steve doesn't receive the conjoined message (I checked with him - he received nothing). Brian has received the joined message, including the bit I sent to Steve ages ago about the spanner! The joined message shows up in the messaging thread as being sent to Steve, but in the Log it is shown as being sent correctly to Brian.

Very odd, and potentially catastrophic if the wrong people are getting messages to other people tagged onto the end. I remember Android phones having an issue with this ages ago but I thought at the time it could never happen to a Nokia!

Nokia needs to address this ASAP, unless it's just me.

I should point out this does not happen every time I send a message.  It is intermittent.  I've a Nokia N8 UK on Orange.  Product 059C5Q7

Hello,

I have exactly the same bug. When i send an SMS, the N8 show an error and when I skip and try again the message is send with the end of an other message.

It's a little bit Annoying.

This problem appeared after upddated my C7 to Belle then i
flashed the previous version (24) and the problem disappeared which seems to me That the Belle has a bug .

I tried deleting all the messages that had been imported from Anna, totally wiped inbox and sent messages.  Went away to France for a week and turned 3G off, no problems with this bug.  Got back to the UK and back onto 3G - exact same problems back.

Even more oddly, even though I had wiped all the old messages from my inbox, the extra bit of spliced message came from ages ago, and had been deleted last week.  This is a really odd problem that Nokia needs to address ASAP.  Have turned back to 2G only and will report further - can other users with same problem report if happens on 2G or 3G please?

@meshuga: From the description it sounds to me like your mobile carrier may have a problem on their sms server. Try giving them a call or an e-mail explaining the trouble you have?

It sounds like the message store has become corrupted.

You can use an alternative file browser (ActiveFile, X-Plore, Y-Browse) to delete everything in C:\Private\1000484b or reset the phone and take a backup of the messages (even though there aren't any) so that you can later restore the empty backup if it happens again.

C:\private should be full of subdirectories, if it's not then you haven't hacked your phone. Google Coderus Norton hack if you want to exploit your phone and se the Open4All patch to get permission to look inside C:\private.

If you don't want to hack the phone then the alternative is resetting the phone (deleting all the messages isn't enough) and keeping a backup of the empty message store so you can later restore it if it happens again.

I've had the same problem in NZ - on an E7-00 from Malaysia. Definitely only started since the Belle upgrade.

There needs to be a response and fix from Nokia for this - hacking or resetting the phone with no guarantees just isn't good enough

Indeed, it would be nice if Nokia could officially support a solution to this but from past experience it just doesn't happen. Dan, I will probably try the reset option, so that I can get apps and folders and settings back asap, would doing a backup of everything except the messages, then reset and restore work the same do you think?

Yes, but if you use Nokia Suite to re-install the firmware then it will take a backup of everything including the corrupt message store. You have to manually take a backup of everything apart from messages (click on the rightmost icon in the toolbar to get at the backup option), reset the phone, re-install the firmware, then restore from the backup you took.

Before you do that you should re-install all the apps you've downloaded to mass memory from the shop to the memory card. Change the shop settings to use the memory card before re-downloading everything in your download list.

Once the phone has been reinstalled, make a backup of the empty message store so you've got an easy fix next time. The file manager backup option on the phone lets you take a backup of just the message store to the memory card, the Nokia suite backup option makes you backup the contacts with the messages and makes you restore them later meaning you could lose the newer contacts.

To reset the phone dial *#7370#*.

Thanks Dan.  I am well on the way to restoring everything and will see if the problem goes away.  As it is intermittent it may take a few days to be sure.  What a PITA!!  I'd imagine your option of deleting the folder with the message store in would be much quicker...

Just in case anyone from Nokia is reading - switching to 2G made no difference after all.  So it wasn't a 2G/3G issue.

my text message simply won' go. I tried hard reset. But after a couple if texts, the problem comes up again. I trust Nokia is listening.

Good to hear I'm not the only one, sad to hear this problem is this common. Solution from Nokia would be greatly appreciated, as this phenomena is rendering the use of sms totally useless.

Thanks to Dan555 for providing the solution.

After a few days and about 100 texts the problem has not recurred.  There are 2 solutions, a quick one and a more time consuming one, see post 10 for details.  All your existing messages need to be wiped though so if there is anything important then write the info down first.  Also if performing the quick solution, clear your inbox and sent messages first - once the archive folder has been deleted the system may not like it otherwise.

Thanks to Nokia for being of no assistance whatsoever!  Contacted support and they got nowhere, unless Dan555 is working in an unofficial capacity on their behalf.

During the weekend I seemed to stumble on a work-around for the problem. It seems that when I'm replying to a message in the "conversation"-mode, in which one sees the messafe beeing replied on top of the reply beeing written, the described problem raises it's ugly head. But if I reply to the message with a completely new message it will be sent just the way it was supposed to be sent, without extras and to the real receiver.

I haven't reseted my phone or hacked it in anyway, neither will I do so, due to the fact I've got no interest in such. The way I see it, it's Nokias job to fix it and the consumers. So allthough there seems to be a work-around to the problem, it doesn't mean that it's solved: so, Nokia, get up and do your job.

I am just fed up of this Nokia belle issues and this SMS one is the big one,Why isn't nokia people getting a fix for this,if they can't do it soon,they should make a statement rather than relying on the forum users to play up and find a solution,"get those paid workers do some real work".

I downloaded X-Plore to go to Private folder. But this folder is empty.

What do you suggest to do?

I have the same problem with N8 Belle.
