Nokia 6220 classic help

Hi everyone, i recently purchased Nokia 6220 classic and i have some questions.

1. MicroSD Card
I want a good microSD card(large, fast n stable). Whats the best for 6220c?
According to gsmarena 6220c only supports upto 8G microSD but according to Sandisk website 6220c can support 16G microSDHC. (?)
Can 6220c support microSDHC card with (2 in circle) and (4 in circle) rating? and which one is better?

2. Phone Lock
I can't find this option anywhere. I want the phone to ask the phone unlock pin(~4 digits) when i first turn on the phone.

3. Video Recording.
Screen goes very dark during video recording sometimes, would new firmware fix this? i have Software version: 03.23, Software version date: 27-Jun-2008.
Also is it possible to disable the red light during video recording?

4. GPS, i'm on prepaid, is it possible to get free GPS service? if not which prepaid network would be cheapest for using GPS?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Nokia 6220 classic help

1. According to the spec released by Nokia, 6220c can support a microSDHC cards upto 8GB capacity. Since the phone has support for microSDHC, it may be possible to use 16GB also. I'm not very sure about this (though I've seen people using 2GB microSD cards in 6230i, in place of the maximum 512MB limit set by Nokia). The better the speed rating of a card, the faster the data transfer. Therefore, there will be a marked difference between (2) and (4) rated cards. Go for the latter.

2. I doubt. You need to install a third party application for that. Try Mr.Lock. It's free.

3. New firmware usually improves performance - general, camera, video, Bluetooth, GPS, etc. It's better to be up to date.

4. If you're talking about A-GPS, then you need to ask around for the best data transfer plans available in your network and others.

Cheers,

The 8gb is the one to go for, asputting the 16gb card may make the phone run slow as the processor may not be able to cope

2. Phone Lock
I can't find this option anywhere. I want the phone to ask the phone unlock pin(~4 digits) when i first turn on the phone.

If you go into the phone settings, then security, you have various ways of locking the phone either by locking the sim card or the phone.

3. Video Recording.

Not sure about the first part, but you cannot disable the lamp it is to let people know they are being recorded I think

Nokia maps is very good, so long as you download the mapping download software first from Ovi.com to load them to the phone. It only costs about £50.00 (not sure) for the voice prompts as well.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Nokia 6220 classic help

zzan, I think I didn't read your 2nd question properly. If you need to turn the PIN code request ON, go to the settings -> Security settings -> Phone & SIM. You will find options to enable PIN code request during power-on, phone auto-lock etc.

Re: Nokia 6220 classic help

Thanks alot for the advice.

1. I've decided to buy 8GB Trenscend Micro SDHC Card (class 6, TS8GUSDHC6), would this work fine on 6220c?
http://www.transcendusa.com/Products/ModDetail.asp?LangNo=0&ModNo=195

2. Ok i'll look for that Mr.Lock software, its bit dodgy cos all my previous 20 mobile phones had phone lock feature.

3. I installed Nokia Software Updater and according to it, 03.23 is the latest firmware(?).

4. I've downloaded 150M Nokia map using Nokia Maps Updater and Nokia Map Loader but it still asks to connect to internet if i use the map.
Do i have to contact my network on enable the GPS service?
When i ran Nokia Maps Updater connected to PC, it download 5M file and installed it to phone memory, some new version of software 2.x to 3.x. (now my phone memory is 95MB instead of 100MB)

As for the phone lock, i want the phone to ask for both Sim Pin and Phone Pin when i first turn on the phone. So if i lose the phone, other ppl will have hard time using it.
I got sim lock enabled on 6220c but i can't find phone lock option anywhere.

Re: Nokia 6220 classic help

1. Ok. Go ahead

2. You have the feature to turn on PIN request on. For locking the phone, set the phone auto-lock period to some 1 minute or so according to your preferences, so that it'll ask for the phone lock code after the autolock period elapses. I used to set this on, but sometimes I find it cumbersome, especially when I'm listening to music.

3. If NSU says so, then that's the way it is. You have to wait for a new version.

4. Nokia Maps asks for the net connection to plot additional info on the map. The extra 5MB might be taken by the new version, and perhaps by the cache, etc.

Have fun with your 6220c :smileyhappy:

Re: Nokia 6220 classic help

Thanks alot for all the help.
Got 8GB Trenscend Micro SDHC (class 6) and seem to work fine.

My main problem atm is the dark video recording, During video recording whole screen goes dark or very dark for a 1-2secs randomly. I'm taking the phone to Nokia care centre to upgrade to latest firmware, they told me latest one is 5.5? but mine is 3.23. So hopefully that will fix the video recording problem. Otherwise they told me i have 14 days to return the phone for a new one, if theres still problem.

I guess i'll ask em about the Phone Lock(at start up) and free GPS(they told me i have to disable go online option to use free GPS) so hopefully everything will be cool.

I was originally planning on storing maybe 5-6 latest movies(~5gb) on the 8g micro sd, but i dont have any 4:3 movies. :smileysad: i guess my old LG KU990 was better for watching movies.
I still prefer 6220c over KU990 cos its smaller, but i just hope video recording will be fixed with latest firmware.

Re: Nokia 6220 classic help

I still have the video recording problem, after spending hours on the net, n taking the phone to Nokia care centre for latest software/firmware. :smileysad:

During video recording, whole screen goes dark(or very dark) for 1-2secs then goes back to normal. This happens Very often even in very bright condition. Screen seem to go dark for a sec during recording when i move from brighter scene to darker scene.

Anyway is this normal for 6220c? Anyone with 6220c have same problem?

Overall video recording quality is noticeably worse than my previous LG KU990, but i can live with that. But i can't stand screen going dark(or very dark) for 1+sec very often.
