Nokia 5800 and new V40 firmware

Just updated the firmware on my phone and have a minor problem.

When someone rings me and the phone is unlocked I can answer the call ok, but when the phone is locked and someone rings it says answer in green and unlock is blue, I am unable to answer the call until I unlock the the phone then tapping answer, answers the call, how can I answer the call without unlocking the phone?

CONGRATULATIONS -- WE HAVE A WINNER!

You're the first person I've seen to complain about this.

Have you not noticed the following?:

a) it's an arrow you're shown, pointing to the right, which implies movement.

b) the arrow is animated in a left-to-right direction, also implying movement.

The arrow is not a button, it is a suggestion. Next time, try swiping the screen in the same direction as the arrow and in the same direction as the animation: from left to right.

There were dozens of threads about this when the feature first appeared on the N97 last year.

Re: Nokia 5800 and new V40 firmware

We're gonna have a lot of 5800 users coming in here complaining about the cannot answer the call when locked. LOL. Just like the 5530 when it was still quite new.

Remember the N97 as well. Same problem, same solution.

With the N97, it was inexcusable because it was in the manual. In the defence of 5800 users, there is no manual to explain this feature so people can be forgiven for not knowing. The graphics are, however, very explicit and leave little to be misinterpreted.

Re: Nokia 5800 and new V40 firmware

So it is! I'd never noticed that before. Given that unread messages show up in boldface and read messages don't, I'd always relied on that to see what was read.

You can also unlock the phone with the physical button on the right and it will take you to a more familiar view. It's like pressing the silence button, the call is still incoming but there's no ring.

I'm afraid you'll have to be patient.

Traditionally, the UK-specific product codes get their firmware up to 2 months after generic EURO phones.

Re: Nokia 5800 and new V40 firmware

Updated to V.40 today thro NSU...

Now my GPS not working... I updated the maps v.3.01 using SW update.

I tried all the possible ways in the handset and GPS is not working... (Even Google maps says GPS has problem)..

In the location - GPS Data - Position - Satellite status - It finds few satellites but always shows Waiting for GPS

In Maps, Geoposition: No GPS fix in the dashboard.

Anyone have this problem or anyone knows how to solve this??

Any help appreciated....

Re: Nokia 5800 and new V40 firmware

The GPS is working here, but it does seem to be a little less sensitive. Then again, there is heavy cloud cover here today (what else do you expect in the North of England? :smileysad: ), which could have an impact on satellite reception.

Re: Nokia 5800 and new V40 firmware

Thanks for your reply, abzafella. The only reason why i wanted to disable this thing was because it froze a couple of times yesterday when i answered an incoming call.

I then found a solution. :smileyhappy: If i press the green button directly it doesn't freeze.

Also, just to answer to you, claytonb. The other way, i know, to silence an incoming call is also to turn the phone around so the screen looks downward.
