Nokia 5800 XM v.40 Is Released !

The long dreamed and waited v.40 is going wild now !

The new firmware V40.0.005 for Nokia 5800 is out !

There is no official changelog yet so these are the main changes detected:

    * Kinetic scrolling everywhere except: main menu, application menu, browser;
    * Home style widget with Nokia 5530;
    * if you rotate the phone horizontally on messages, it automatically activates the QWERTY keyboard;
    * Refresh Icons "Sharing Online", "Configuring Accessories", "Configure Phone";
    * Improved application "Updating Applications", which also renames Upgrade SW;
    * The application "Data transfer" was also implemented in "Settings";
    * Real Player Updated to 12 October 2009;
    * Touch more responsive;
    * Improved stability;

Really? Browser is where I wanted it most...................

I guess that is ok, it can be added to the app at some point if they want to.....

Nokia does not publish changelogs for their updates. We just have to check and compare and hope they have done things for the better Good luck with the v40. I hope it's good!

The old web browser already had a form of kinetic scrolling except that it doesnt go on scrolling when you remove your finger. They removed/replaced it? Or it stayed the same and it just isnt considered as kinetic scrolling? 

Oh yeah, anyone knows which countries have it already?

This v40.0.005 was a long waited firmware since the release of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, however the v.40 was actually leaked and was still under major bugs on October 2009, also planned to be released on December 2009. The Finnish mobile phone maker released new version v40.0.005 can be easily downloaded from Nokia Software Update feature. It is advised to backup all your data before updating your device.

The complete changelog is not yet available, but the much awaited kinetic scrolling has been confirmed by the users. The update comes with kinetic scrolling and new home screen similar to Nokia 5530’s home screen. Some users have even claimed that the kinetic scrolling is smoother and much better than Nokia N97.

This update is not available in all the regions. You may have to wait some days or weeks before it is available in your region. However, the mission was postponed due to other related issues such as camera malfunction occurs. But on this day 13th January 2010, Nokia's view on the millions of 5800XM users, promising KS and new HS came true !

This update is currently on the loose via Nokia Software Updater (NSU) only and nor Firmware Over The Air (FOTA). It's available for certain country codes for now, and the updates are expected to expand to more users in near time.

So, please be patient and wait for your turn

Just checked the availability. I quality for Ver 40!

ABOUT TIME!

Will post up what I find about it later. So far my few issues with Ver31:

1_NO kinetic Scrolling on contacts list

2_GarminXY Ver5.6  not stable and tendency to hang.

3_Phone displays MEMORY FULL when I try to choose pictures to attach to contacts.

4_Browser lags when C: memory drops below 35MB

some reported bugs so far

1. The contacts on the home screen are too laggy even without thumbnails and with only 3-5 contacts added
2. Music widget is not transparent

Feel free to add more in the hope that they will get fixed in the next version!

Update 1: the contacts widget seems to run smoothly now that I've gotten use to it - you have to move you're finger in a rather tricky way i.e. its not intuitive

Update 2: The music widget is reported to be transparent depending on the theme in use

Update 3: The browser DOES crash more often than before

Update 4: Stability issues are popping up every now and then....
