Nokia 5800 XM sms smileys

i don't get it...i onestly don't get it...older models an other mobile phones have this feature...the sms smileys...before i got the 5800 i had an 6280 and it had sms smileys...and in logic i thougt the 5800 is one of the latest models..it would have the same feature, even better..but surprise...5800 doesn't have sms smileys! whyyyyy???? that's the beauty of an sms..when you send someone ..that someone can see your emotions about the content of the subject in the sms...one thing is to say for example something ironic and at the and of the fraze to put a " :smileytongue: " and one thing is after that fraze to put " : - ) " (two dots,a line and a acolade) ..it's just different with smileys...why nokia screw this up ??? i really hope in the future firware versions this will include also sms smileys...not that stupid thing ine the beta labs called audio smileys...that's stupid!!! WE WANT SMS SMILEYS !!!!

But you have to pay for that/them, why should you pay for something that really should have been included in the first place. Another bodge job from Nokia.

Re: Nokia 5800 XM sms smileys

lol@warren_g, think it has more to do with the user needs and demographics of which the Series40 and Series60 phones are targeted towards. i.e. Series40 is mostly for the common user who does not have much technical knowledge/need for advanced features, therefore they are simpler and incorporating emoticons provides that 'fun' factor. for Series60 users (N-series, 6xxxx Series and E-series), they are more technically minded users/business users who do not really have a need for 'fun' emoticons to be displayed. i.e. they reflect a more professional attitude to the platform.

Re: Nokia 5800 XM sms smileys

@ adrianhughes
you got a point there with the S40 and S60 ...but...5800 XM is like you said S60 with more techno stuff...but it's AN XPRESS MUSIC...therefore it's targeted for the common users, for young users...that's why it is called XPRESS MUSIC.I don;t see technically minded users/business users using XPRESS MUSIC..a phone for MUSIC..therefore it should have "a need for 'fun' emoticons to be displayed" ...

if we talked about let's say the N97..then  yeah! you would be right...an N97 would be targeted for those bussiness users..therefore it wouldn't have the need for emoticons ...

in conclusion..5800 XM is for young users...for music lovers...for commn users who enjoy all those funny things...and therefore it should have sms smileys and more likewise features...thats my opinion

Symbian s60 never had emoticons and I think it never will. Though its a real shame. Just because s60 is used in smartphones does not mean people don't like to use smileys

Re: Nokia 5800 XM sms smileys

Good point Sebastianmario, it kind of makes sense/kind of doesn't make sense. but Arnavzz is right, i don't think Nokia will implement smileys on Series60 anytime soon. although Series40 and Series60 are becoming closer in feature sets and features shared between the platforms, so we may see it in the future, but not the immediate future unforunately.

Install the app on the link to the phones memory (not the memory card):

Re: Nokia 5800 XM sms smileys

If you want that feature you have to pay. There are no decent free alternative. Search google and see for yourself.

If you want to complain to Nokia use the "contact us" link near the top of the page.

Re: Nokia 5800 XM sms smileys

The crux of the matter is, if it is not an inbuilt feature of the fone, there is no sense paying for the same as it requires the application installed on receivers fone too...

Re: Nokia 5800 XM sms smileys

The application does not need to be installed on the receivers phone. If the receiver has a phone that supports smilies they will see them, if not they will see them as classic plain text smilies.
