I have had the red Nokia 5800 for around 9 months. A few days ago a noticed that the Shortcut key light next to the XpressMusic text on the top right of the phone remained on even after locking the phone. I tried resetting the phone, and also taking the battery out and putting it back in, but the problem remains.

I searched the net but haven't noticed anyone else with this problem so think it may be a hardware fault. An advice would be appreciated before I send it back.

Hello, I am having exactly the same problem. Media bar button light is always on, even when the phone is switched off. Is this normal? Do you have the same problem with your 5800?

I do not know how to solve it, it drains my battery so fast. I can not use it without every night charge.

Hi, I've just got my nokia 5800 and I have the same problem with my media key and red & green buttons always lit up when I have charge on my phone. Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.

Slightly different problem on mine - the lights do go off when turned to standby but the media button buzzes when touched but does not do anything!!

Any ideas?

I'm sure its a hardware fault as I tried restarting my phone and updating the firmware and that didn't fix the problem.

Going to send my phone back today.

My 5800 XM's middle button [the white between green and red] often blinks at standby mode for no reason!

to movilogo, the random blinking of the middle (white) light on the 5800XM is normally usual.

I say normally beacuse it depends on what your setting are, however there is firstly the "breathing" light. This flashes the white light every 30 seconds or so, just so you know the phone is switched on and not off. Secondly, if light notifications are set to on, then it will also blink when you have received an email or missed a call etc.

The same problem has just started on my phone also. I've tried hard resetting it a few times and was going to try and reinstall the firmware to see if that helps.

Did you send it back to the repair center? Were they able to help?

My phone is yet another with the same problem. Had the phone for a couple of months now, but just the last week or so the problem with the media shortcut light, together with all three of the function key lights at the bottom (red, white and green) all staying on when the phone is on but locked either in general or offline profile. This has just drained the battery completely overnight.

Many people reporting this problem but no suggested solutions as yet it appears. Any ideas? I was going to try and update the software. Can't check my version now as it's switched off charging, but I seem to recall when I got the phone in October I went on Nokia's website and there wasn't a more recent version of the software than the one installed on my phone, so....?

hi...i own 5800 ..nd i face the problem that my red key light is direct even my phone is off....i resetted  it..updated it...but still i got the problem please help me .... i drains my battery too fast even on low brightness

Recently developed the same problem with my Nokia 5800XM. The media bar light doesn't turn off. I don't want to pull off my LED like someone suggested. Why can't this be problem be solved in some other way?

What do you mean on first, blinking or not?

about middle button periodical blinking. Here is the solution.

1.  Go to settings.

2.  Sellect : Phone

3. At the bottom you will find " Notification lights", select that.

4.  Select: "Standby br.light"

5. There is "Breathing light" with option " on or off"

6. Set to "off", and there will be no more issues with battery.

ah yes i hav heard of this problem it seems to me dat it only occurs in the red and black versions made in any country it also occurs in the blue version which is made in any othr country except hungary. the made in hungary blue version is d best it dusnt hav this problem according to what sources say and according to my experience. so if u hav the red or black version u shud consider trading it in for a made in hungary blue version.

I am also having the same problem. Shorcut bar light and all the 3 physical button lights are always on even if the phone  is in standby mode. I am going to check the device with nokia care today.

This is outrageous! So many people have this problem and covering quite a period and Nokia haven't responded to it. I just received the 5800, 4 days ago. This morning the light issue happened with the shortcut and function keys at the bottom. My phone then crashed altogether, it just won't come on. It was fully charged this morning so don´t think it's that but am trying to charge it again now.

I'm sending a request directly to Nokia...

Sorry to know that... If even after charging the phone does not get switched ON.. try a Hard Reset..

In fact, since the phone is just 4 days old.. se if you get a replacement..
