Does anybody know how I insert at phone number into a text message on the Nokia 5800? I know I can attach contacts as business cards, but I don't want to make every single text with someone's number an MMS that costs me extra to send, and a lot of my friends have non-Nokia phones that probably can't read the business card files
On my 4 previous Nokia phones this feature has been included and very easy to find, usually just by going to options -> insert number and then browsing contacts. If this feature is not included, please let me know where I can submit a feature request.

It is similar to FP2.
On the 5800 it's: contacts > highlight the contact you want to send > options > send as business card
You can then choose via message, email or bluetooth. Via message will only send it as an MMS not an SMS (MMS with a .vcf attachement).
If i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

AFAIK, sending a business card in Nokia does not make it a MMS. However, SE and other phones do have an issue with vcards. (And so does Nokia, if you receive one from a SE).
You would again need to go the the contacts, edit, copy number and then go back to your sms and select paste.

thats not a very good way of doing things on s40, you could insert number, and select a contact.
Is there anywhere we can request software changes like this?
i would also like the ability to view the actual phone number from the call log when someone has called!

Hi, this answer has been agreed as the right one, but sorry to say, bus as per my experience it doens't work (just tried both ways on my 5800 - firmware V31).
- while writing a SMS, the option to attach a businnes Card actually does attach a VCard to the message, and it becomes a MMS (an explicit note remembers it on the screen).
- I cannot actually go to Contacts while writing, as if I go to home>contacts, it takes me back to the very same message I'm writing. found no way by now to see the list of contacts in order to try copy/paste the info I need.
If, elseway, you have found the post helpful, can you please explain me how you actually do it? It is still quite a complicated way, but better than nothing...
thx,
Matteo

If you don't want to send contact information as business card (vCard, .vcf) format, you can use this tiny free software: Symbsoft Tools - Sms Contact. Pick a contact from the native address book, select one or more details (for example tele, email etc.) to forward, and go! The contact details will be sent as the plain text format in the sms. No screen switch, no copy, no paste, every phone can read the text message correctly. It's really convenient.
