I saw a thread on this forum a while ago about how there are problems with the 16gb sandisk cards and the 5800, and that the data is corrupted after a while.
Just thought this might interest some people... I ordered a 16gb play.com memory card and have been using it for a month with no issues. It was also only half the price of a sandisk card
I have 2.4gb free and have regularly switched/deleted albums on my phone, and taken lots of photos etc. Have had no trouble whatsoever with it.
They only sell them in class 2 so if you're an ultra user you're out of luck I'm afraid! Link to 16gb class 2 card - http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/-/1005/1250/-/9

I can't say I agree with you.
Admittedly it took about 7 hours to fill my memory cardwith all of my music initially, but since I've had the music on the phone I've had no performance issues. Songs load instantly, videos play instantly.. there's a slight lag when I take a picture/video with the camera, but other than that everything's great!
..maybe it's just because I haven't experienced the speed of better cards.

Try taking a picture & then get it to find it & it'll take about 3 mins for the phone to find it, in fact the last time a colleague at work timed it at 3' 15s, which is abysmal.
AFAIC the 5800 is a piece of junk with some fundamental hardware flaws which isn't helped by abysmal file handling routines in the firm/software.

If by "find it" you mean open the picture by clicking on it in the gallery after taking it - that's instantaneous.
If by "find it" you mean using the "search" application - again, instantaneous. It took about 3 seconds to load all of the photos on my phone, and the one I had just taken was in the list.
If you mean something different, please clarify.

Not read these threads about 16GB cards getting corrupted on the 5800 but I've not seen any on other forums and i get about believe me.
No problems with my SanDisk 16GB and no problems with my 5800 either, i can find a pic in the gallery straight after taking it with just a few touches.

I don't see why you are complaining about the 5800 being slow, mine has been fine with a Sandisk 16gb card in, the only problem I have had is when I went on holiday and took in the region of 250 pictures inside an hour the camera packed up and I had to take the battery out for about 2hrs and it was fine.
Don't forget the 5800 was only a engineering exercise prior to releasing the N97 to fix any bugs in the touch screen technology.

Hehe, that´s funny, so you thing that they devolop and release a phone just to use it as a test for a future phone with similar technology?! I find that really hard to believe...btw, what information do you have that you can allege that?
The day we stop improving is the day we stop being good.

I like that. It's kinda funny because
1) Any model of product is used to build upon for future releases...that's sorta how progress happens
2) If you believe that Nokia deliberately made and released the 5800 as an excercise and knew this beforehand, then why did you purchase one...
3)Browse the forums and you'll find some N97 users having problems with the touchscreen device.
Joking aside, yes there are teething problems with the 5800 but I find it an excellent everyday device that more than meets my mobile needs. I'm happy.

Warren - you describe a device that I'm just not familiar with - mine has quite snappy performance and has never missed a beat in the five months I have owned it.
Perhaps I've been lucky but my 5800 has exceeded my expectations.

Pretty good exercise if you ask me ![]()
The 5800 has a better audio system in it does it not? (better speakers / dedicated audio chip) if so, it seems like the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic does its job better than the N97 does.
