Not if you got more than one network like me. I deleted the "Internet" access point because I always ticked it by mistake while I wanted to use Wi-Fi, but I've still got a much cheaper network available under my Wi-Fi access point. If you don't have more than one network available, I guess it's not a good idea to delete the access point.

Only problem with deleting the Access Point is you might need it in an emergency someday and no longer have the option to use it.

Re: Nokia 5530 Battery replacement

I'm confused by the diiferent options for placing access points in 'Destinations'. When I choose my home or work wifi, where should I place them - Internet  or WAP services?? Does it matter? Or are these just options to supposedly make things easier for you to manage having numerous connections methods??

Re: Nokia 5530 Battery replacement

Cheers :smileyhappy:

A new small problem. Yesterday I got iPlayer working using a different browser, but today the phone / browser / iplayer site thinks I'm outside of the UK and won't play ball. The iPlayer help file suggests contacting my ISP. This is connecting through my home internet connection via wifi.

Any ideas?

Re: Nokia 5530 Battery replacement

Just place both of them in "Internet" and organise them if needed. For me, WAP service is a way cheaper internet connection method than the normal 2G, but guess that's different for each country. If you don't need it, you can organise it so you will only get available Wi-Fi connections (if there are any). Although I think that's not needed, unless you use two Wi-Fi connections at one place which is a bit strange...

device: n86 8mp white , 1200mah battery, nokia claimed music playback of 30hrs

Here is my battery test for backup using music player. This may be used for comparison.

Case 1...... fully charged, brightness at level 3, network mode is 'only gsm", phone in general mode, no calls, no sms and nothing running other than music player, in music player stero widening is on, bassbooster is on, eq is at bassbooster effect.

music playback via loudspeakers at 100% volume: 6hrs continuously.( screen off during full playback )

power consumption: 0.80 watt(if volume is set to 10%, them consumption will decrease to 0.60 watt).

Case 2...... fully charged, brightness at level 3, network mode is 'only gsm", phone in offline mode, no calls, no sms and nothing running other than music player, in music player stero widening is off, bassbooster is off, eq is at default.

music playback via headphones (out of box one) at 100% volume: 23hrs continuously.( screen off during full playback )

power consumption: 0.20 watt (whether volume is set to 10% or 100%)

.......................................................................................................................................................

i think music playback is short of 7 hours (via head phones) from the playback of 30 hrs as claimed by nokia. And this is sufficient. As 30 hrs is only possible under test contditions (involving room temperature etc)

please comment on above test and its results

thanks!

Uhm, guess you can still get some hours more by:

-changing network mode to offline

-turning bassbooster EQ off

-turning stereo widning off (only if you're using the loudspeakers)

-putting brightness at lowest level (only if you're using the phone)

@aName

My 2nd case is already having all those things mentioned by you and i am getting 23 hrs music playback in that case.

And in my opinion one cant get more than that as that battery backup is under ideal conditions: offline mode (NO SIM INSIDE), screen off, headphones used, all effects off etc). ONLY condition i could not achieve was maintaining proper room temperature. Doing so may increase backup by 2-3 hrs.

Okay, I'm sorry about that, didn't see it. I guess you're right about the temperature, but what about the battery age? Charging your battery "on the right way" could also get you more music playback.

So, they should have tested it in seriously ideal conditions or they just give more hours "on paper" than you can ever get...

Re: Nokia 5530 Battery replacement

I have done those tests with brand new n86's BL-5K battery (my n86 is only 2 months old and battery is just 1 week old), so age is not a factor here. Only temperature factor remains.

Re: Nokia 5530 Battery replacement

Age could be a factor but not the way you think. The battery will only achieve optimum performance after at least 5 to 6 charging cycles. If I were you, I would let it go through at least a dozen charge cycles.

Re: Nokia 5530 Battery replacement

so thats also done. As far as i think in that 1 week period my battery already had 5-6 charge discharge cycles as i use my phone too much. Usage is up to that extent that i need to charge it daily after its battery drops to 2bar from 7bars.

I understand that age factor has two meanings:

 1. How new is the battery?

2. How old is the battery?

Both have significant effect on battery's optimal performance.

Some good info guys.

How / where do you turn on / off the 'Network' setting?

When you refer to the screen being off do you mean the 'light time out' setting in Settings / Phone / Display, with the options of 5-60 secs?

How are you measuring the power consumtion?

Re: Nokia 5530 Battery replacement

Actually for that test i just tried to achieve ideal conditions, under which nokia might be testing devises for battery backup.

To change network mode: tools->settings->phone->network->network mode->only gsm

To turn off network setting: 1.switch to offine mode or 2.take out sim, (i used 2nd method)

Screen being off means, phone was left unattended for that 23 hrs, so there was no screen use, so screen was not displaying anything during those 23 hrs. screen is too much power hungry even though its oled.

To measure power consumption i use "nokia energy profiler"

Re: Nokia 5530 Battery replacement

Is there anyone out there who can help me regarding my problem in 5530 battery... After several charge cycles..  the average battery life as seen in the eon battery timer is approximately 8 hours.. I tried to use an energy saver app just to fix the problem but I still have the same problem.. Can anyone help me with this.? Here is the problem? Is it with the battery or with the phone? If its with the battery can I just buy a new one? Or buy anew battery but this time replace it with 5800 battery which has a 1320 mah rating? Will it affect my 5530 in a bad way? Can I use other nokia batteries with the same battery size but with a different mah rating example 1600 mah up.. can anyone answer me? thanks!
