Well, something happened that I totally didn't expect. The "phone" app responsible for making calls was not responding. Every time I went into log, selected recent call, and pressed "call", the log app would flash and restart. No call was made despite several attempts. Of course I have firmware 10.2.020, as Nokia didn't deem me worthy of an upgrade (generic product code for NAM 0591930). I had to reboot the phone in order to make a phone call!! I understand that their more "advanced" functions do all kinds of stuff, except for working properly, but if Nokia phones will start failing to perform a "Phone" function, I guess that's the end of the road.
I know of no other brand that requires DAILY reboots to maintain basic functionality of the device. Really disappointing.
... and I am not a hater - the only reason I post here is because I had faith in Nokia, shelled out significant money for N97 mini based on that faith, and now I'm grossly disappointed...

I agree with you. Phone app is quirky. I was on a call today and had to navigate a menu structure by pressing numbers on the virtual "dialer" app. Put phone up to ear, display goes blank. Move it away from hear, display lights up to enter new numbers. After a few cycles, display would not light up and could not find a way to turn back it back on.
Also, speed dial is not too speedy. Hold virtual key down, wait for dialing - sometimes never dials or pops up on lower left with option to "call".
I'd like to think that the v11 f/w (when we finally get it) will resolve all of these issues, but as a software engineer by trade I highly doubt it and it may be several more releases before these are worked out and at the rate that they offer updates to NAM customers, this phone may never be right.
