Update:

Just took a couple of identical photos using "automatic" and "Macro" - they are both roughly the same size and the amount of compression artifacts seems to be the same as well, so I guess it's just a matter of diferent scenes giving different results.

The "Low" sharpening of the portrait preset also makes sense since it gives a "softer" looking image suitable for portrait photos (and you can always sharpen it on the PC later) but the high sharpening on landscape I'm not sure about - maybe it's to improve the picture since it's taken with fixed focus ?

Also the "Sports" preset now uses fixed focus - can't remember if it did that previously?

I had the same problem with my phone not dropping the WI-FI connection after I closed the browser.
I changed my WI-FI security from "WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK" to "WPA2-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key)" on my Netgear router, and it drops it no problem now.

Try this one. On my N95 when i visit

http://wwwl.meebo.com/

Once it crashes the browser (POOFF disappeared) and on next try while loading the same website, it gives me error saying low on memory, close applications and try again. I have nothing running besides web browser and i checked holding down the multimedia key.
Is it still possible that some app is running? I do not have more than 3-4 apps installed on this N95 and those apps are not running either.

Is this v12 specific?Never had this error before, but then i did not visit that site on v11 either.

Re: New Nokia N95 firmware 12.0.013 is out. "Official" feedback thread.

The problem there appears to be something called AJAX (Or Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) which is something that is used to make webpages function more interactively. The web client built into the N95 has an AJAX stack but it still cannot handle AJAX the same way a computer can.

If you go the website on your computer and login, you will see it showing you a box and telling you its encrypting your password before logging you in. That is the AJAX at work and it looks like the N95 is trying to process the code for this as well and its hitting a problem causing a fatal error.

Re: New Nokia N95 firmware 12.0.013 is out. "Official" feedback thread.

Why is it when i check software update availability on nokia's page it says v12 is available for my product code, but when i connect my phone and run NSU it says that my current v11 is latest and is up to date? My phone has russian product code, in case someone from Nokia is reading this..

Also, i read a lot of complaints on this new fw, such as keys don't responding sometimes, you have to press it twice sometimes, etc etc on howardforums, does anyone here have problems with keys?

Is it just me or sometimes the keypress is not registering.
I'll be playing around and browsing through the menus, and all of the sudden one of the button did not work. It can be any button.
At first I think it's lag, but after waiting for a little bit, I see nothing happen.
If I press the key again, then it'll work.
Really weird, and annoying..

Nope its not old age or madness, I've experienced it too.

Has anyone else noticed the flashing blue light on the right hand side of the device (When your holding it looking at the screen) that flashes occasionally. I think its the glow from the camera activation button switching on and off quickly but I've only noticed it doing it since the v12 firmware.

Ive been playin all day. I lost both backups. So i was real happy with that. When i hit wap i get the 3.5 icon. WIFI seems better, Im picking up wifi points that only my pc could hit before. Button lag.... I thought it was just me, but it seems other n95 users are havin this prob. Blue light on the side, Yeah ive got one, Why. GPS feels the same, Slow at first but got better, Could not use it to the full with maps, as my back up failed. Music, Im not sure if its me, but it sounds louder on bluetooth headphones. Start up seem slow at first, But after clearing all the **bleep** off the phone it got better.

Not sure if this has been posted in this thread already (apologies if it has) but v12 has been released for the 66.01 version of the N95.

Re: New Nokia N95 firmware 12.0.013 is out. "Official" feedback thread.

V12 firmware seems to have fixed a problem I had in V11 whereby the phone would sometimes not boot up and get stuck on the white Nokia screen, I'd have to take battery out and put back to fix this.

However, I've gained a new problem. If I boot up my phone in a part of the house where I don't get any phone signal and then once I see the main standby page move to a room where I do get a signal, just as the phone detects a signal (2G) it restarts itself, boots up, then restarts itself again... repeating this sequence until I take the battery out.

If I wait a minute before moving to where I do get a signal it doesn't crash.

Since I live in a location where signal is very poor I keep getting this problem most mornings and it's very annoying.

Re: New Nokia N95 firmware 12.0.013 is out. "Official" feedback thread.

It would *appear* that they have resolved the issue where the phone will sometimes not vibrate any more when it is supposed to if you have been using either the 3.5mm jack or the media button (I'm not sure how you duplicate the bug exactly).

I stress the word appears as I have never been able to reproduce the bug reliably, it just happens from time to time so it might just be that I haven't encountered it yet since I upgraded.

Re: New Nokia N95 firmware 12.0.013 is out. "Official" feedback thread.

I try really hard to upgrade my n95 but process stops half way there.
Phone hangs and then updater asks to remove battery and reboot.

This is really strange... anyone had this issue?

cheers,

I think I am starting to miss the time when mobile phones were used for calling and nobody knew what "firmware update" meant.

I think the ability to update firmware makes mobile phone companies rush products to market, thinking that whatever problems there are can be fixed later. Not only is that a slap in my face because you are selling me an incomplete/unfinished product, but oftentimes the bugs are never quashed in future updates.

Equally frustrating is that I have yet to own a phone that would stop treating me like a child and allow me to make a 1:1 backup so that I do not have to spends a day restoring everything the way it was.

I miss the good old days...

Sorry for the rant.

I agree 100000%. Having to restore apps and settings is such a pain in the a**s. My trusty SE W810i did what it was supposed to do all day every day for the last yr without any thought of an "update". Give us a break Nokia
