Hi, true the link just takes you to Nokia, on google search (using link as search) select- Nokia Europe-on your mobile and on line-Ovi Maps-Downloads......
That will take you to download page, just tap on second Download down for X6, N97 mini and 5230
No need to uninstall old software, it will overwrite.
Hope this helps, worked for me, but took a while to download
Good Luck

@psychomania - I have to disagree with you here, as far as I'm aware there has been no official comment on why the N97 v2.1 firmware has been delayed and it's my understanding that comments made by Nokia employees on these forums are not considered to be official statements.
Again speculation on my part but as the new version of Maps has been found to work fine on the N97, if you have the c: drive space, it only makes sense that the firmware was delayed due to the incorporation of the new Ovi Maps. Either way why didn't Nokia wait the extra seven days so they could include their flagship device in this announcement?

Feel like being cheated by nokia to get this so call Flashship phone. They never make us happy and feel proud of getting this phone. End up it disappointed us and make us feel regret and hate nokia at the end.
Don't you think that you're the MOST STUPID one in the world to buy this N97?
It seem N97 being isolated and nokia is giving up on this failure product. What do you think?

@carman: Still not working for me. I am getting the Unknown Error: -5 error message. I guess I'll have to wait for the 2.1 update.
What's funny though is that I have both Nokia Maps (3.01) and Ovi Maps (3.03) in the list of my installed apps, but I can't launch it. The map icon (compass) launches the old app.

@carman58
Download and Installation was piece of cake. Quite fast when using WLAN.
Just can't find the widget you mentioned. Tried everything including restart of device. Removed my Agenda widget, then looked at the list of available widgets but nothing there that wasn't there before or anything that hints at Location.
Any other suggestions?
Also noticed that Maps seems to find my current location faster than before; also indoors.
Just love the 3D view: although still limited number for Holland, at least it has several landmarks in Amsterdam.

I have the answer for you.
The GPS that the N97 has is simply rubbish, after my experience using GARMIN TX Mobile on my N97 I can tell you, don't get your hopes up with this free Nokia maps, half of the time in the Garmin the phone thinks that somehow I have changed side on the Motorway of that I did a 180 U turn in the middle, or somehow I managed to fly to the road next to it.
If you are expecting to rely on the N97 GPS with this free software I can tell you now, I do not want to be in the same car as you.
I only see it as a random ocassional use in which I do not know where a place is and I have not got my Tomtom with me.
Unless that this nokia maps fixes the GPS itself I doubt it will be any good.
I guess is a nice to have feature but you can see why the did the display on the N97 Mini, at least you know which GPS works and which one does not.

Thats a known hardware issue with the GPS, headwrecking but solved by dropping your device into a nokia service center.

New maps works great, like all the new features, seems more accurate, and the menus are better, To all those moaning just check out several new apps available for N97 mini, they all work on N97, I believe that the reason for non-availability for the N97 specifically is due to imminent release of V2.1 and that they will be part of it, organized in a way to avoid using too much space on C, Think back to N95 ! It had problems, but with updates and tweeks became(and still is) one of the best phones on the market, and rock solid. Maybe we shouldn't have to wait, and maybe the N97 should have been 'perfect' but we do and it isn't, and all these ' I've had Nokia's for years and this will be my last one' guys should realise this.
Just my opinion, hope I'm right, feel free to hurl abuse in a couple of months if I'm wrong ![]()

So basically this is the same version we'll get on the N97 they just gotta figure out how to increase space on C: drive with V2.1 coz it is quite a huge file.
I doubt we'll get that update on the 28th.

OK, how many of you are going to fail to be able to get somewhere because Nokia delayed your FREE upgrade to voice navigation one week? You did not buy this phone with any promise of this feature being free so relax for one short week.
Settle down and give them a chance. I see persons complaining about the wait like a small child having a tantrum over a toy.
The attempts to add the new feature by way of an end run around the system yields problems as you can see in this thread. Chill and your nav will be here soon.
Nokia is not perfect but when I look through the blogs on other cutting edge phones I see lots to complain about on all of them.
I am not going to defend every action of Nokia. I think they get lots of things right but they also make some mistakes along the way too. I bought and returned two N900's due to lack of 3G freq for the largest GSM network in North America. I knew it before I did it and I did it just to put more phones back to sellers so they could get the word to Nokia that it was not acceptable (I hope...). I bet this error in judgement gets corrected in time also.
24-Jan-2010 05:12 PM
What is the largest 3G network in the US? AT&T? The N900 doesn't work on AT&T? I just switched from T-Mobile to AT&T because the N97 doesn't work with T-Mobile 3G.
Are you saying the N900 works in Europe only?
24-Jan-2010 05:57 PM
AT&T uses WCDMA/UMTS 850 and Nokia gave the N900 UMTS/WCDMA 900/1700/2100 frequencies. You can use N900 on AT&T and get EDGE/2.5G speed but this cripples the phone (in my opinion) when you want to do downloads and web browsing that has pics or lots of content. If you live center city and have Wi-Fi free everywhere maybe this isn't a big issue, I don't live there and it is BIG for me. N900 has over the air (OTA) download capability for firmware updates but after 3 hours on the first update (< 100 Mb) without it being finished I stopped it and used my N97 Joikuspot Wi-fi to my PC and got the update in less than 15 minutes and then loaded it to phone.
If you buy a N900 you will want to go back to TMo. Even then you will not get 3.5G speeds that N97 has on AT&T.
The lack of that 850 freq also cripples the N900 for Australia and NZ.
I bet the N900 will end up with a new radio to enable it to work on that 850 band.
