Hello,
it's my first day with this phone and I don't really know how to use it or something is wrong with it. Sometimes the screen light goess off and no matter what I press or slide the screen is blank/black although the keybord light is on.Even when the phone rings, I can't see anything on the screen.Sometimes the screen comes back to normal even if I don't do anything.I went throught the manual but couldn't find anything about it. Sorry if it's a dumb question,maybe I'm just doing something wrong.

What you have just described is not normal for an N96. Perhaps the phone is just reacting very slowly. The N96 is known to be slow for the first day or two of use, while it is busy indexing files in the memory. It should speed up after it completes the process. If you are still experiencing the same problem after a few 2 or 3 days, I would suggest getting the phone replaced.

Have you tried using NSU to update the firmware

By all means do try to update the phone's firmware, but try via FOTA first of all. It's easier, quicker and safer for the phone than NSU.

I did that but the problem still exists.

Sorry to hear that. I think you should now bring it back to get a replacement. Better that than to send it in for repairs which could take a couple of weeks.

I was just thinking ,isn't it strange that the screen gets blank ,well not blank I can still see icons,just sometimes.In a period of 5 mins I noticed that it was ok for about 3. I was having a silly hope that I'm doing something wrong.But looks like I need to take it back. One more question,is there any chance to take another handsed not n96? I upgraded my o2 contract.

Well, you will have to speak to O2 about that. There is never any harm in asking. They can only say no.

Which handset are you thinking of?
