HI everyone,
I want to purchase the n93 but i have this fear of purchasing as i also have an n80 and we all know about the issues with that....can anyone who has the n93 please tell me and other perspective buyers in reality how this phone works and what problems have been faced so far.......any memory low prompts connectivity to wifi problems etc.

It works as most any other S60 based phone. Good video quality. Decent camera quality.

Hi Roberth,

Yah..N93 overall performance is good, except some small glitches.
The camera performance is really good, but the only problem I noticed is that during video recording if we use the zoom function, then the camera movement noise will be added to the recorded video clip. So the same noise will be heard during playback.

Do anybody experienced the same?

Yes I've noticed that. But you can disable the optical zoom in video recording so then you have only digital zoom.

Overall I would say I'm really happy with the N91. Video quality is awsome and it's great that you can hook it up to the TV and play Snakes on a big screen, or share videos and pictures with friends on a tv.

My experience was pretty awful.

The menus, the web browser, messaging, camera, apps were all pretty much great; very fast, lovely display, great build quality.

However, there were several serious problems I had.

Some of these could have been down to the Nokia store I bought the thing from, maybe it wasn't configured properly for Vodafone UK, but some issues were definitely firmware.

For example, it insisted that I couldn't make video calls; it said "feature not supported by network", despite that I'd turned Dual mode on, and selected the 3g vodafone uk network manually.

When I sent a WAP push message to the device, I tried to go to the URL and the web browser opened correctly, but took me to the bookmark page and wouldn't give me the URL from the message.

The worst problem though, was that whenever I tried to install Java programs, no matter if they were signed or unsigned, no matter that I had switched software install to all and online cert. check to off, it simply said "unable to install". No explanation, no install.

In the four days I had the thing, battery life was pretty great, and I kinda got a feel for it; it's a good quality device on the hardware side. But the firmware lets it down.

My advice would be to steer clear until at least the next firmware release, and to get it from an operator rather than Nokia directly -- I had Vodafone and Nokia blaming each other for the thing not working and honestly, life is too short for that kind of nonsense.

For the first, call the operator and make sure that you have been "provisioned" for making 3G video calls with your subscription/SIM. The other party you're calling must be, too (and on the same operator's network, or the two operators need to have a roaming agreement that allows video calls to go from one operator's network to the other).

For the second, make sure you have the correct operator settings (use, e.g., the Settings Wizard app on the phone is probably the easiest way; actually, the phone knows how to get the proper settings from the network automatically, but the operator must support that, too, and all don't).

For the third, go to the Application Manager app in the phone, hit Options, choose Settings and change the software installation setting to "All".

Apart from that, I had checked that I was provisioned correctly (the error message occurs instantly open selecting the video call option, long before the network attempts to check the other party's setting), and I spent many hours talking to Vodafone support, downloading settings of all description.

The web browser worked just fine as a browser; I could see all the sites I wanted to, including the one in the WAP push message I sent. It just didn't want to handle the message correctly.

if you want to buy a pretty good camera phone this is just for it but there are many small and not so small problems for example the phone speaker is so silent that its hard to hear, tv out guality is pretty awfull if you have a bigger tv, you cant hide any videos or photos to your phone (all will be seen in the gallery),hedsets volume is not very loud and there will be many more when i use it more.
so there are many thing in the phone but nearly none of them has been carried out very well

Well heres my experience...

Got mine import from HK - im living in New Zealand.

Vodaphone 3g works fine here can stream vids no worries - though after the 1st month free trial they charge heaps who wants to pay for tiny outdated video **bleep**. However transfering your own vids to a 2GB card (hope to see a firmware update for the new 4gb cards) is brilliant the screen is fine and the sound is great, have watched many tv series episodes (ofcourse then as per any device you are limited by the battery as to how long you can watch - if at home plug it in).

After having it for a few weeks I love the wifi ability to check mails/surf from bed through the router. Out and about it wont always connect even through the open (no wep key) wifi access points it finds. When you do connect the browser is top notch.

The music player is very good the sound is more than clear enough considering the level of ambient noise when your wandering in a city. I haven't tried headphones other than the boxed set as unlike the N80 I had this dosen't come with and adaptor that enables you to use any 3.5mm HP set.

I've had the odd freeze - ok only 2 times in 3 weeks to me thats fine easly fixed by removing the battery. And no I don't have any 3rd party rubbish on it yet that might cause a conflict. But whats more disturbing is the random slow downs - sometimes its quick to change through the icon pages othertimes its sloowww, but this is random. Sometimes the front display will cease to allow me to alter the profiles. Weird - I dont know for sure but with my unit its as though when the battery is FULL theres no probs but when it drops 2 bars (no where near empty) there are weird troubles.

Oh and the camera isn't the quickest to fire up - give it about 8-10 seconds to be ready to capture in vid mode. I just timed it then. If anyone else says theres is quicker thats fine all we have to do then is work out why theres a difference in the units, and that would be scary for buyers if there is.

At first I thought the build quality was too plasticky but then when you look at other phones most are plastic and heavens this one only has 1 piviot point for the screen so you have to expect some creaks. Though in truth I wish THAT point was made of stainless steel and made to feel like the price you're about to pay.

To sum up - I like the phone despite it's short comings mentioned above which I can deal with but feel for the price paid I really feel SOME of them I shouldn't have to and SOME are just well I don't know - how much do you have to spend?. The video capture is it's forte if you hold the phone still enough, it needs record level adjustment (or a compression setting adjustment) as various events overload it, though thats seldom.

PS my only regret is that the N99/N97 will have a 2.8 apeture lens with true virbration control. ISO & shutter speed selection and an enormus boost in battery power. Those 2 things alone will make for an almost complete unit oh only if they expanded voice recognition to be able to input data. But theres always more to add.

Nightisland - I have had the same troubles to - install set to 'all' yet some won't. Java version different perhaps? I don't know except that it annoys me to - unless Nokia know something like 'oh that will run terribly small on this N93', or 'thats a bad game we wont allow it on our top range models' lol.

It's nice especially the Video it will defenitly shock you, except for a minor problem that occures with the front display, not showing the ring profiles to choose from.

But pushing on the back cover didn't work for me, doh!, and if it's a hardware trouble then hells bells it's that plastic cover again. I can't help thinking if it was the rear cover not supporting the battery then surely this would cause more than the front display issue lol.

I've just got my N93 yesterday....very excited.
Started to film today ..and i have the same problem..
Very noisy when zooming in and out...

Is this on every N93 or am i just unlucky to get a broken one.????

Also I'm using a mac....is there any software I can use to sync my N93 and Mac together..or do I have to wait for some nice person to create a program.

Yeah had mine N93 for a few weeks now and the honey moon period is wearing of, I desperately need a proper cover keeps slipping out of my hands !!! dropped it 4 times so far, and no case in sight.

Bluetooth is not write. When connecting a headset the sound mutes every time, a right pain.

Route 66 and many other apps including Java for os 9.1 all fail on install, got doom to install and zip and a few other utils, had to cheat Route 66 into installing!! Many are having the same problem, it seems that either the security checks or nokia have to tighter grip on installation as nearly all 3rd party apps fail.

This phone will live or die on its multimedia abilities and geeks like me loving to play games on tv with it, But of course Ngage isn't supported evan in emulator mode !! their are no good games just tat apart from the supplied game which is ok and Doom which is excellant evan on TV.

So come on Nokia make this a gadgeters heaven for once and give us something to work with after the £400 ++ money spent!

An Update please.

PS found a realy good avi/divx player free on the web out there.
