cpitch help me plz

my Nokia N97 have A BIG BIG PROBLEM, my ram at boot only 15mb!!!!! no app running! i cannot do anything!! Not even veiw pictures not even go to the internet!!!!, i dun know what to do and realy confused!!!! someone please help me!!! i have serious trouble . ONLY 15mb at BOOT! i already did like 10 hardreset ! i did last one yesterday, but today only 15mb at BOOT(memory). If anyone have ideas plz help me i'm seriously upset~!

Really you should have a browse through the list or start a new thread.. more people will notice your problem and might be able to help..

The first thing I was going to suggest was doing a hard reset.. crud

There's two things to note.. the c: is part of the internal flash of the device (a seperate flash to the 32Gig e but it isn't RAM. It's the same on a desktop.. think C: versus system memory.. The problem is the N97 has similar quantities of RAM as it does C: storage.. On a desktop PC if you had 2GIG of memory, you'd expect more than a 2Gig hard drive.. on the N97 its about the same.. more or less.. anyway..

Alway clear the browser cache!. The phone stores its browser temporary files on the c: Open the web browser, options, clear privacy data, cache.. that might free up some space.. 

Here are some other suggestions.. bearing in mind that no one solution fixes this problem.. its a bit of a battle to keep the free space under control..

How did you hard reset? *#7370# or the pressing three buttons as you turn it on? What you need to do is wipe the c: and let the phone restore it.. filling in the gaps.. the problem is this will wipe all your settings, bookmarks, messages, contacts and calendar entries (unless you're storing that on the e:.. come to that in a moment)

First thing is first, always backup.. us Ovi Suite or PC Suite on your desktop!

Have a look at the file manager application (application, office, filemanager, c: options, details memory) it will break down what is using the storage on your c: and give you some hints as to what you can delete or move over to the e: where there is more space. IE photos or music might have high usage and you can use the file app to move image files over to the e: and free space that way.

Some applications could be moved over to the e:

If you have widgets installed, they can be removed and re-installed onto the e: which will save you quite a bit of space..

if you open settings, applications, installed applications you'll see a list of apps that are installed. If you look down the right you'll see a little black card icon IF the application is installed on the e: flash.. if the icon isn't there the application is installed and using space on the c:..

Not ALL applications can be moved over to the e:.. some MUST stay on the c: Things like facebook, accuweather slide show can be uninstalled and you can then use OVI store to download and reinstall..

Don't uninstall an application unless you know you can reinstall it.. Check the OVI store client to make sure you can find a replacement.. target widgets first, they eat a fair bit of space.. 

Another thing you can try is moving your messages over to the e:.. This works for the most part, but the phone will occasionally jump back to using the c:.. you'll think all your messages have gone. but you have to go back and tell the phone to use the e: again (this happens after using the phone in USB mass storage mode)

 Have a look around the discussion list, there are lots of threads about how to free space on the N97 and how to better manage the c: storage with tips and tricks.. 

I'm not a good person to ask..  i have 8 meg free on mine!

Cpitch thankyou for telling me, i did not create a new tread because i didn't know i could do that.

My problem is not the C.mem after lots of hard resets i have learned to manage it at 40mb, it is the ram, i cannot use any of the phone features except the call and menu, with handy taskman it says i have 10-5mb ram left, if i try to force the phone into running an app i get the following message "phone memory full,free some memory and try again. i will create a new tread

That is a bit strange.. Sorry for getting it confused... It could be that there is an application causing problems on the e:.. even if you do a hard reset, the e: (and f: SD card if you have one) is not touched.. if there is a broken application on the e: then after the full reset, it will be picked up by the phone.. it may auto start and cause problems... not too sure..

Think of it like reinstalling windows but leaving a dodgy applicaiton in the CD drive.. it auto runs when windows boots.. that kind of thing.. 

As you said, starting a new thread should get you more help

thankyou for ur suggestion but all i have in mass memory is some messages and 2 songs, i do format it before the reset so i do not think the problem is about that, any way i have started a new tread and hope to receive come help from others

These problems with N97 reminds me of the N95-1 problems. Nokia will slowly lose part of the market dues to its c.r.a.p.p.y products. I have been using my N95 for more then two years. In time I learn how to make do hacks in order to make function smooth, but for the amount of money that I paid for it it should not be like this.

I was planning to buy the N97 when it was below 500 e, but I changed my mind after reading tens of complains about it.

I am going to buy the N900, but only the next version (N900i?) because I know that Nokia will realese in several months as they always do.

on page nine i stated my opinion on rushing for n900 and i recieved an answer two posts after by cpitcford , clearing out differences between maemo and symbian. that was constructive and helpful, therefore im thankful. when choosing between the n97 and n900, one should read the post by cpitchford . thanks friend!

I got my hands on the N900 for about an hour. It makes me want to flush my N97 down the toilet.

The N900 is simply awesome, its truly a mobile computer platform. It is also the Iphone killer..... I had 10 apps open at the same time and there was no lag or no hang ups and nothing slowed down.

using wifi i even made a skype call and it was brilliant.

Kudos to nokia on bringing out the next gen phone, but I am saddened by the lack of respect shown to us loyal clientle.

If I had know that the N900 would be coming out so soon, I would have never bought the N97.

I would like to recommend that you come out with a buy back scheme for people like me.....

I totally  agree about the N97, mine is going on ebay as soon as I can get my hands on the n900.  I wish Nokia hadn't screwed the N97 up so much, it had so much potential but just never made the grade (yes I  am on v2.0).

I want a mobile computer in my pocket - that is how the n97 was advertised(Maybe it was - but an old windows 3.1 version - constantly lagging and crashing!)

Roll on the N900 (I know I should wait until it has been out a while rather than be a guinea pig again but I am too obsessive for that!)

Can any of you lucky people who have got your hands on a production model give us a review asap

The N900 looks like a really cool device. Too bad, it falls way short for me. The only thing it has that I like is the good processor and all that RAM. Maemo 5 needs a lot of work for me to want to switch from S60. It's a great start, but it's missing way too many things I have on my N97, software wise. I'll keep my N97 and wait until something comes out that has everything both of these have and more, if that ever happens.

I would recommend the current N900 for anyone who is very technically capable AND does NOT require all the features and functionality found in Symbian v3 and v5 phones like the n85 8mb or the n97.

For example, the N900 does not have all of the phonebook features that the Symbian phonebook does.  It is not possible to add many new details or change the labels of details. So, if a phonebook entry is configured with multiple numbers with specific detail names they will not appear in the N900 phonebook nor will you be able to recreat them.  But, this is just one example.  There are many, many, many functions of the N900 that are just basic compared to the Sybian v3 and v5.  Another example are profiles.  Two are available. General and Silent and both are minimally customizable.

So, if you love technology and you can endure bugs and limitations, you can handle the N900.  If you are interested in contributing to the growth of the platform by reporting on missing features and bugs, definitely the N900 for you.  However, if you rely on the complex functionality and customization of the Symbian v3 and v5 platform, the N900 is definitely not for you.
