do u really think that by installing the new os i.e. maemo will solve the problems in th en97, considering the amount of RAM the n97 has, the cpu speed. if it is struggling with the Sv5 currently on.
i reckon they, the nokia should show some respect to their loyal customers by offering an upgrade and recall da n97

that is completely not the point. nokia will continue to release phones with symbian and tablet/phone hybrids or however you want to categorize them with maemo. its that simple

Nokia are cheats, what the N97 ads showed me is not what I got. Isn't there laws against misleading advetisement??

Hi all.

I couldn't read all the posts, but i can tell you the reason which probably, n97(and, all the other phones) has problems.(at least, the most of the problems)

If i am wrong, tell me but don't shout.So, generally, the most problems on mobile phones, probably caused by apps.Maybe it's a little bit strange that i'll say, but, the best is to, don't install any app to our phones! I believe that, isn't good/'healty' for mobiles, to install apps.If we didn't install apps to our phones, i think that the phones would freeze very seldom. 

I hope i'm not wrong

Interesting theory. So we might as well go back to using the basic mobile phones and carrying diaries, organizers, portable game consoles, sat nav system, personal stereos and radios, laptops for things like facebook and twitter for those of us wanting constant connection.

This is a smartphone mate it is meant to handle it all.

Yes, it's a smartphone. That's the reason which these phones (generally, about Nokia smartrphones) have super cameras with xenon flash(mine has xenon flash, the other dual led), a-GPS/GPS, maps, excellent screen analysis, quickoffice, adobe reader, lifeblog, n-gage, visual radio, the download! app etc .

The simple cell phones, haven't got great feautures like smartphones.It isn't meant that, we have to filling them with applications and games. By itself a smartphone, has enough things and great feautures.It doesn't need to add apps. And for games, if you buy & install games from n-gage, there is no problem.

Yes i don't disagree. I'll try to explain better what i meant about the apps.Lets suppose that we have two N95 phones. They have the same firmware version, and installed the same apps. It is possible, the one N95 to has/face some/a  problems/problem with the apps, and the other to be okay. I want to say that, that i said (it's better to don't install any app to our phones) doesn't force for all phones. There are phones in which you can install few apps, and phones which are sensitive to apps. Probably the most of mobile phones aren't sensitive to apps (and that's probably the normal), but if you want to be very sure, don't install apps

but then, alone from the definition of an application (which is only loaded during runtime and doesnt affect the OS in ANY ways else) it should harm any OS. i bet my n95 was more stable with tons of apps installed then my n97 is

dont mix up applications with drivers. on windows it might be true what you say, since applications can install

dll libraries which are not statically compiled in but loaded during runtime. and several apps and sometimes the

OS are depending on one dll which is a library loaded when needed. this means that if an app installs another version of the dll all the other apps and even the OS will use another dll from that moment on too. (except for windows vista and 7, which are bloated up to 15 GB on your drive, since they keep all versions of dlls for different apps -> winsxs folder).

but for symbian this is somehow different also symbian apps are not allowed to install drivers or any libs within the operating system range. which in return means that no app can really harm your OS (how it should be!) but only can consume needed space on your drives. (which is bad for the n97 c: drive as we have all seen so far )

so, basically i agree with you in this point when it comes that an app consumes too much ram or space on the c: drive

(which is rather crippled on the n97).

my firends n97 which was rather "clean" (free of all apps you can install) ran worse than my overloaded app-filled

n97 (my third) due to its faulty hardware. and i think the hardware itself is the point this thread is about,

i was texting and then the screen faded away. i thought the battery went but went i charge the phone, the screen gets frozen on the nokia screen.

the only way to swtich it off is to take out the battery!!

please helpp me! is there anything i could do?

try this

1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345

2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)

3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working.If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.

If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service for assistance.

Now that the N900 the N97 lite and the X series phones have been launched shouldn't Nokia be making a formal statement regarding the N97?

The phone is far from stable and to go and launch a mini version of it to me is a bit irrisponsible on Nokia's part unless it's based on a totally rewritten OS which they should be making available for the N97 already and not make us wait another month or two.

The phone costs £499 but works like a phone worth a £100.  I know Nokia people come to these forums if they don't  well then that's proly why Nokia is losing the smartphone battle. Anybody from Nokia reading this please tell your bosses to stop flipping around and get serious we need a formal statement regarding the N97 and we need it now.Do they acknowledge that the N97 has problems or have they chosen to ignore all the feedback we have gave em.

My phone's gone back for more repairs and it's looking more likely that I'll be getting  a new handset taking me onto the third.
