My N97 (RM-507) was running so well until this latest OTA firmware update.
Now I keep getting random "rainbow" LED pattern reboots occuring at the rate of about 1-2 per day.
I'm afraid that I'm going to have to "wipe" the phone memory (hard reset) and reinstall all my programs over again (for about the 10th time!).
Gee thanks, Nokia!

Do a backup in the mass storage.
I always recommend to do a hard reset before and after the firmware update, because some files of the previous firmware version will affect the flow and work of the new.
Most of the symbian apps, if installed in the mass memory or memory card, will reinstall alone, those apps that can't, have a reinstall mini app in the Tools of the phone.
First thing first, perform a back up, then HARD RESET the phone *#7370#, after that, start the phone as usual, the install process will begin after the set up (time, date and telco config)
After that you go to the file manager to restore, you can restore everything and you will have all your apps, and maybe the problem solved, or restore everything but files, and restart the o phone.
After the phone restarts you will see most if not all of your apps, then go to "Menu - Tools or configuration (my phone is in spanish so I don't know how is in english)-Phone-Aplications Manager - Application Files
There you will see some .sis files that will re install your apps.

Hi, I can only partly agree with this advice, I would hard reset the phone, as it helps, but DON@T BACK UP EVERYTHING, just contacts, calendar and notes. Backing up your settings etc can cause the problem to continue, the current settings are for v21 they may be incompatible with v2.2 so the reset is pointless if your going to restore the phone AND the problem !!
Hard work, but worth the effort of the reset.
Good Luck

I have here a different problem, present since I upgraded to 22.2.110.
I even did a HARD COMPLETE RESET and Format of Mass Memory and Memory Card then reinstalled using Software Update, but...
2 to 3 times a day, phone will show: Insert Sim Card.... then after some seconds: "Phone will restart". I can hold the menu key to see the apps running in the background, but nothing else is possible, just to press OK so the phone can reboot.
I found the Insert Sim Card message after waiting some time looking at the screen of the phone.
Will try to take a picture next time and add it as attachment.

these reboots don't mean that it's the N97's firmware problematic. in most cases, the operator is responsible for random reboots.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion, but your point is radiculus. My N97 keeps booting and my n95 doesn't but they all have sims from the same operator. It doesn't make sense blaming operators when even kinder kids are aware of n97 problems.
