From the start back in July when I got my N97, its music player has been painful to use. Yes, I have a load of songs (about 7000), however, with 32GB one would think Nokia would expect a lot of of content to be placed on the phone.
With the original firmware, going from the music player -> library -> artists -> albums -> song, each step would be painfully slow, with the whole process taking almost 2 minutes before I could actually start playing a song.
The new v2.0 firmware seems to have improved the steps up until going from the artists page to the albums. Now it takes 15seconds to 3 minutes (depending on the number of songs for an artist) to show the artist's albums. Then going from an album selection to show the songs takes another 15 seconds. Selecting a song to play is another 5 seconds.
I purchased the LCG music player just to avoid using Nokia's player. With that software I can start playing an album as quickly as I can select the folder containing it...like one would expect.
All the songs are .m4a, organized in subfolders by artist and then by album.
Does anyone else have this problem and/or a solution?
