I've read some other threads on this, but not a single useful post out there, so here goes my own:

Does anyone else have issues using the speaker/handsfree option on their N97?

When I put my phone on speaker or headset, I can hear the other person just fine, but I am breaking up for the other person as if we're talking on walkie talkies. If we say something one at a time it's fine, but in a discussion or normal conversation - so through each other - the other person cannot hear me properly, cuz I keep breaking up.

What the hell is wrong with Nokia that they cannot make a phone that can actually.....I dunno.......CALL

Oh and will this 'bug' be fixed with the new 20.xxx.xx firmware?

BTW, 0587245 from the Netherlands, still waiting for the update.

First time Nokia user, kinda dissapointed, gotta say...

Anyone who can help, be greatly appreciated.

I also had issues like you are describing when using the phone on hands free.

I've only used it once like it since upgrading to v20 and the other person didn't complain so maybe they've fixed it...

Just hold out for the update!

As you will see from a search of "speakerphone" on this site, many people are suffering from defective N97s whereby the speakerphone does not function the same as other phones but works on a simplex system like a walkie talkie.My phone has been back for 3 failed repairs and 2 replacements all failed on the speakerphone with the exception of the last replacement which still remains in its sealed box awaiting collection by Nokia. If I wanted a bag of lemons I could have gone to Morrisons and they would cost me considerably less than £500, .....at least I could have used the citrus fruit.

Yeah, I've read those threads (and great job ignoring the guy that was being an **bleep**, kudos to your zen, I would've been all over him, your response was much stronger though...I have no self control...), but no one there posted a solution or that the issue's been solved by the update...I wasn't really clear in my post here though, I see that now. lol. Ok this is it:

I don't think anyone knows. I've been trying to find out for two weeks now. My guess is if someone knew for certain they would have responded by now.

I've a friend who had the same problem and who updated their software to v.20 and who I can hear just fine now. His loudspeaker works well enough though you need to have dog's hearing to hear it cos it's pretty low. But he can at least be heard when he makes a call using that feature now, whereas he couldn't before. My guess is there's been a try at fixing it, although this could be just a lucky break for him, and not the majority of users' experiences.

On the down side for him though, his auto-rotate don't work no more..... Lol. So it's official; the N97 is a debacle for Nokia.

I never tried speaker phone on my N97 on FW v12 but now with v20 it works fine.

Ok, I'm starting to get happy here.

Now all I gotta do is wait and wait and wait and wait til I can update.......
