N97 not notifying me when i get a message

I have had my N97 now for a couple of months now and i have had no problems. I usually keep my phone on silent and what use to happen was when i get a text it vibrates and all worked fine.

 

But it started going wrong firstly by, the phone vibrated now and then even though i didn't receive a message which was a bit annoying. But now the phone wont even virbrate, the screen wont light up or the message icon wont display when i get a message.

It also doesn't do anything when the phone is on general with all the tones turned up on loud. I dont get any messaging tones or the screen doesn't light up

 

I haven't changed any settings so i dont know what has happened, any ideas guys??

Reinsert the battery, later try sending a text message to your mobile and check whether it works
