Don't just give in, go for a total refund of your money. Whatever you do not just sell the phone without first trying to get a refund or a fully working replacement.

I want share to my experience yesterday @ McDonald's. I ordered some takeaway burgers and only to realize that they forgot to put in the cheese - which I paid for. I realized this only when I reached my office which is 16 Km from the McDonald's outlet. Of course this annoyed me and was disappointing. Infuriated I called up the home delivery number and asked for the restaurant number, which they very promptly extended. The person at the other end said sorry ! And simply asked - what do you expect us to do ! In my annoyance I did whine about how they spoilt my meal. He offered to deliver me a fresh meal (it is out of his service area - which cooled me partly) and requested me for some time to deliver. I refused as it would have made no sense to wait for another hour for the meal. We were just hungry. He offered an apology and refund.I accepted.

 

I reached the restaurant in the evening to claim my refund armed with my invoice for the missing cheese.Was greeted with a smile, I explained to them that I have come for a refund and in an instant the restaurant manager made a quick appearance out of nowhere to speak to me. They seemed to genuinely care about how upsetting was it for me to have service shortcoming and they wanted to walk the extra mile to ensure that I did not hold this unpleasant event in my mind. No showing invoice, proving to them that cheese was missing etc etc. and To my utter surprise the restaurant extended a full refund. Well done McDonald's.

 

This is what i feel really makes large corporations from good to great.

 

for the n97 I can say about my personal experience. The n97 has failed to live up to the promise.  has service shortcoming & missing promised features. However I still believe that NOKIA is a good corporation and would like to give the same good customer satisfaction like I got from McDonald. I guess since its very large corporation and High value of the device maybe something's (say processes) are taking up a lot of time, taking away our patience.

 

I am a user from India, It took me 45 long days to convince the Nokia Team that indeed my first device had numerous issues. As of about a week ago, a nokia rep has assured to me for an acceptable resolution. They need some more time. Well I can tolerate the wait as long as there is an assurance & a date promise.

 

The recommendation kogg is giving, is very good. I think what kogg is saying that there could be a possibility to get a fully working replacement, or refund. Only when everything fails you can look at other options which I guess can be very much avoided.

 

I am in the same boat, er sorry flagship as many others for a second device we own which is now the second time with Nokia for a week for evaluation of the problems. Lets hope they give all of us what was promised !

A replacement wont resolve the issue as the issue itself resides inside the FW of each N97. I will patiently wait for a FW update.

Guys just thought to let you guys know that when i type using my keyboard i do have the auto correction. anyways this is how i got it:

when writing a text message click options --->input options--->activate prediction
now after you did that go in setting and  change the text correction to high and also turn on the word auto completion.

that should take care of the problem. thought to let you guys know considering I've seen many people mentioning the lack of auto completion or word prediction. anyways good luck and hope we get our hands on the V20 soon. cant wait...

If nokia add a seperate GPU on their N97's, then the cost of N97 will go 2-4x than its current price

Reading this thread it very much looks like Nokia adapts are suffering from the same cognitive dissonance as iphone users. Not being sure what marketing means with the term Flagship it undoubtedly felt slighty let down when things didn't work out exactly as product development promised.The N97 mini looks great but feels in day to day use like a chinese replica of a real PDA/phone and I probably even offend a few chinees with this remark. Interestingly there were no major lay-offs at Nokia, no executives fired over the N97 (mini) disaster or stock implications. It probably is a big success for Nokia, profit wise. The classical marketing adagium "Even bad press is press" seems to apply here.

 

As for firmware upgrades Nokia probably communicates more than it's competitors RIM and Microsoft, yet to "repair" a wrong hardware design (memory, no graphic processor, battery size) is not really an option.

 

I made a mental note not to go by the word flagship as far as the finns are involved they never were a great sailing nation anyway, were they? Great rubber boots, nokia makes, though.
