N97 mini connectivity issues

How do i make N97 mini connect to wi-fi automatically when i'm at home and packet network (3G etc.) when no wi-fi is available? Also how to make it prompt before connecting to packet network, as i get charged for it?

This phone has got a mind of its own at the moment, Facebook widget tries to connect to packet network even when an existing wi-fi connection is extablished (and spotify is using it). I get a beep every time it fails...very annoying!!!

In fact ALL widgets try to establish a packet connection when there's no need and i simply cannot change any settings to make this device work sanely.

Thanks in advance.

Go to settings > connectivity > destinations > Internet > add access point, add all your Wi-fi, Service provider access point etc and now set priority. Make ur Wi-fi access point to first priority and next your GPRS or 3g, after doing this go the applications which uses internet connection and set the default connection as 'Internet', if ur on Wi-fi  applications uses the Wi-fi access point automatically with the Destination internet set with Wi-fi with high priority, one more thing i can say is switch ur phone to offline mode if you aren't going to receive calls when you are using Wi-fi, Now when there is no Wi-fi the phone now skips that access point and connects via your service provider's GPRS or 3G connection

If you dont want all these go to Destinations > options > Default connection  > make it to Always Ask. By doing this each and every time you open an application requiring internet connection the phone prompts you select an access point.

Re: N97 mini connectivity issues

Getting your settings correct should sort your problem, but a better solution would be a data bolt on to your contract, having a 'smartphone' without a data plan is somewhat pointless, as you a re not getting the benefit or the majority of it's functions, and another simple solution is to remove the widgets !

Good luck

Re: N97 mini connectivity issues

Thanks for your replies.

I have gone into Settings > Connectivity > Destinations. There are two access points under "Internet - "BeBox" (Wi-fi) and "O2 mobile Web". Now if i click on wi-fi > Options > Organise > Change Priority, the phone gives two options at the bottom of the screen - "OK" and "Cancel". I click OK. Nothing happens. Wi-fi still priority: 2, O2 mobile Web priority: 1. Tried many times, can't change it. Am i doing something wrong?

Also i set the Wi-fi to "Use Access Point: After Confirmation" from within Destination > Internet > Wi-fi connection > Options > Edit. However given about 30 seconds the phone has connected again to the wi-fi as seen in "WLAN" where it says "Connected to BeBox" (my wi-fi). But it never promted me if i wanted it to connect?? Of course i realise that it connected again also if i try to edit it again where it says "Access point is currently in use: Unable to Edit".

Previous to these changes described above i had set the home screen to "Content to offline mode". No other applications are open. If i set the home screen to "Online mode" i get repetetive error messages "Internet: Unable to connect, try again" which are sometimes very frequent so thai can't interact with the phone until they've stopped. Even with wi-fi at priority: 2, the phone does not attempt to connect to wi-fi once the "O2 mobile web connection" fails, it simply gives this error message. This happens even when there is an active and current connection to "BeBox" under "Connections. i.e. a good wi-fi connection.

I don't understand what this phone is going, i would really appreciate your knowledge and advice because this device behaving unlike anything i've ever used.

(I do intend to get the bolt-on etc at some point but at the end of the day i'd still like to know what my phone is doing and when.)

Thanks in advance.

Re: N97 mini connectivity issues

I surely anticipated your first qustion even i had difficult time initially selecting it and it works in a simple way, this is how u have to do it. Example let us assume that u want ur o2 acess point ahead of wifi, select o2 acess point go to options > organise> change priority you have two options 'ok' and 'cancel' dont select 'ok' , now select the wifi access point and hit 'ok' after doing this ur o2 access point goes to the top.

Re: N97 mini connectivity issues

After selecting change priority, you dont click on "OK" immediately. You drag the WiFi up above the Mobile Web thingy. THEN CLICK ON OK. I think. Thats how I remember doing it anyway. I dont have my phone with me right now.
