This is commonly referred to as the WSOD (white screen of death). You can do a search in this forum for WSOD and find lots of discussion, speculation and complaints (mine included).
What has worked for me to get past this...
1. Remove the battery to turn the N97 off.
2. Replace the battery but DO NOT TURN ON.
3. Insert the USB charging cable.
4. As soon as the N97 screen lights up REMOVE THE USB cable.
5. Wait for the N97 to turn back off.
6. Press the power button and wait for the full boot process to complete.
v2.1 firmware better have a solution for this problem.

Thanks, i've did that but in the end, it ended up freezing so i tried a hard reset which was mentioned in the other thread i made which was suppose to be in the 'Nseries' section. and it worked but the problem is...now ive lost some apps, and i have to redo all the settings, and when i open the Ovi store app it says 'Website has sent a certificate which is out of date. Accept anyway?"
What can i do, the only thing i can think of is reinstall V20 since a hard reset seemed to leave files and mess up the system

i have tried two other solution for this WSOD. Interesting, they worked for me only
the first time. And they did not work anymore.
your solution is the first one that works for my phone everytime I tried.
at least no need to redo all the settings. it has been a waste of precious time doing
them again and again.
thanks.
