N97 - end of the road

Well I've had and N95, an N95 8GB and an N96. Particularly after the N96 I was expecting a few problems being an early adopter of the N97. However I did not expect the vast array of difficulties relating to a useless operating system, failing applications and badly designed hardware. I've spent hours - or maybe even days - trying to get the phone to work properly. Today, when I connected the phone to my laptop there was a syncing problem. I went back to the phone to find all the apps I'd installed had gone and my e-mail settings - which were a nightmare to set up - were gone. Sometimes the messaging software defaults to the minute C drive when syncing and all the settings appear to have gone. I've learnt that I need to reset on the E drive and all is fine. Not this time though, everything has gone. Interestingly some of the associated files with applications like Worldmate are still there but to the actual program file.

So the times has come to give up. I've e-mail Nokia saying the phone is not fit for purpose and, in the UK, threatening to refer them to Trading Standards. I've asked for a full refund and will seek out a more stable phone. I'll probably head for the iPhone. It may not have the full, theoretical, range of functions as the N97 but at least it works. The N97 doesn't so bye bye Nokia...

Re: N97 - end of the road

Do let us know how you get on. Been contemplating the same move myself. Thought I could cope with all the tweaking and fixing and resetting am actually spending more time trying to fix something that's gone wrong than am spending time with my kid. This is my second hand set, already been in for fixing twice and I've only had it for just over a month now "shocking!" Always locks on me can't answer calls luckily I kept my N95 so I just pop my sim card into it.

Goodluck

Re: N97 - end of the road

Hear hear... Those of us who can't take any more need to be insistent.  Our money back or a County Court writ.  I don't care how much it costs me, I want Nokia to know this is unacceptable behaviour by a big corporation.  Five hundred pounds is just too much to put down to experience...

Re: N97 - end of the road

Well, I e-mailed Nokia Technical Support several times and telephoned them requesting a refund and outlining the problems with the phone. They have not had the courtesy to reply to any of my e-mails and the telephone calls have resulted in promised to call back. Needless to say no call backs have been received.

As a result I sent all the correspondence to my credit card company and asked them to reclaim the payment. They have frozen the charge.

This is another mark of disgraceful service which is totally unacceptable. I can think of no other electronic company who would ignore complaints about a device which cost £499. Needless to say I purchased the phone direct from Nokia which compounds their disgraceful attitude.

So I spoke to Nokia and told them I'd posted the previous message on their discussion list. So no response. They clearly just don't care.

Re: N97 - end of the road

In recent years I've had regular dealings with Panasonic, Sony, Sony Ericsson, Bose, Pace, Technomate, BskyB and many many more, I have never come across a company as bad as Nokia for customer services. They are in a league of their own.I was promised on no less than 4 occasions that I'd be called back, and that's after holding for minutes+ to talk to an operator. I emailed them no less than 5 times leaving my details for them to contact me. Not once did I get a call or a reply to my emails.

A disgusting company administered by disgusting people. I like their products so may well keep using them but I will never try and contact them again, its just pointless.

Re: N97 - end of the road

I to have gone through the n95+ range. and if i knew what i know now i would NEVER have touched the n97 and headed off in some other direction. plain and simple this model could not have passed all the benchmark tests to be released to the public, i also will be interested in the outcome here , and i have spent days/weeks trying to this n97 stable enough to trust....................this has not happened yet!!!!!

Re: N97 - end of the road

I am having the same issues with my N97 on 3 and even when threatened 3 with not fit for the purpose in a letter all they did was pass it to their call centre in india who called me asking if I was having problems with my handset.

The good news is that with multiple attempts to fix the problems, I now have enough evidence for Trading standards to step in and hopefully get me out of this contract.

I will let you know how this pans out

Re: N97 - end of the road

They are the world's No1 in mobile phones. Why would they care for end users like us or should I say BETA TESTERS?

I got the iPhone 3gs and i borrowed a n97 from a friend of mine. Truly, i find the iphone which lacks many features perform better. its quicker and more responsive!

Nokia just doesn't **bleep**ing care!!!

Funny side is, One fruity Phone came out of nowhere and yet, its the "Most Wanted" phone! Despite Nokia's domination.

Now some super kudoed(Pro Nokia) users are going to speak $hit in this thread!

Re: N97 - end of the road

[ Edited ]

Why are so many people exited about the N900, Nokia could not get the software right on the N97 using the Symbian OS, lets face it,  its just a re-hash of the S60 V3 OS that has worked so well on so many phones, and look how wrong they got it, even with the new firmware it still falls down on a regular basis.

Will early takers of the N900 be getting Maimed by Maemo and lifting the slab to see what bugs lye beneath the gloss and bull, will Nokia test this one properly? I'm not one to forgive them so the N97 will be my last Nokia, they would need to kiss my backside to get me to even think about another one.

Just watch the forums and see how the N900 fairs.

Yaaaaaawwwwwwnnnn!!! I'm sorry, I did find that joke funny the first time, it wears thin by the 1000th...

There is a better than average chance that you're completely wrong, too. The N900 is a Linux-bases Maemo device, just like the N800/N810 internet tablets which were very stable.

Re: N97 - end of the road

Having had 3 S60 V3 phones the last thing to cross my mind when buying an N97 Nokia flagship model was that the OS would be so unstable, oh how wrong i was.

We will see how the N900 fairs, just watch this forum for reports of problems.
