N97 bugorama

I bought an N97 contract from Mobile Phones Direct, received my (first) phone on 24 July, and have not had a working phone since.

I really wanted to like the N97 - I'd liked Nokias in the past, and loved some of the features - the full keyboard and 32GB of memory.

My initial phone's call and end keys didn't work. Eventually, after many calls and and quoting of the sale of goods act, MPD replaced the phone.

The second phones E (32GB) drive was inaccessible. I sent it to a Nokia repair centre in Cheltenham. They were unable to fix it, and have sent it on to a "higher level repair centre" for repair or replacement. That was two weeks ago....

I totally regret getting an N97, but there's no way out for 21 months....I can't believe they would release something so buggy, that people are having to go on to forum to make it work, save apps to the right drive etc....Nokia has so much competition now that its future in high end phones must bein doubt....

I don't suppose there's any point in complaining to Nokia?

cheers

No, Nokia want to sweep this under the carpet and move on to new modes quickly.

Push your network for termination of the contract under the sale of goods act, state that it is not "fit for the purpose" as it is not free from faults or defects, contact consuler direct and make sure that they log the faults, they will put you in touch with trading standards, keep a note of everything, its all proof of how bad the phone is, all calls or communications, get names where possible, and record any attempted repairs by nokia, or the network.

Make sure to check if your camera lens is scratched as the lens cover does this to the lens, and if you have not used it try using the GPS and see if it actually works.

Be patient, it took me 10 weeks to get 3 to terminate my contract, but eventually they backed down, and now i'm free....................bye bye Nokia.

Re: N97 bugorama

GPS is poor and will only save data to the tiny phone memory (but then the mass memory isn't accessible, though its visible on my PC.

I've already had weeks dealing with the appalling Mobile Phones Direct (much poorer customer service than 3), supposedly trading as Nokia Retail in the UK.

I'm tempted to give up and buy a Blackberry or Palm or whatever....I assume recyclers won't buy a phone that doesn't work....

Like all N97 owners we are waiting for the Holy Grail of firmware that will turn this useless phone into the device we paid for. Alas though I think we will be waiting a long time. By all means contact NOKIA though. It will give them something to laugh at while they are counting their cash.

I've emailed them with a detailed list of faults. Can't hurt.
