N97 Useful Tip

I remember some time ago a lot of talk abou tthe sybols/numbers and having to hit the symbol activation key each time. Just discovered something useful. If you hit it twice, it stays on, so you don't need to hit it each time if for instance you are typing a phone number into an SMS message.

Re: N97 Useful Tip

Yes, the same applies to the "SHIFT" key.

Another tip is how to close apps.

If you hold the Menu button for a few seconds then you can see all the apps that are open, then you can press the "<--" backspace and you can close it.

Hope this helps.

I have not found so far how to close apps when the phone is close though, if anybody knows please let me know.

Re: N97 Useful Tip

I got asked how to create folders and put stuff in them today, so in case anyone else wants to know, here is it.

I'll use the Applications as an example, but you can do this at any level in the hierarchy.

Go to Applications (which is a folder with a special systems icon)
Options
Organise
Options (yes, again, stupid, I know)
New Folder

Name the folder and say OK or whatever it is (I don't want to create another folder at the moment - LOL )

Then once you have your Folder, to put something in it:

Options
Organise
Highlight the icon you want to move
Options
Move to Folder
Drill down to the folder you want to put the icon in.

Re: N97 Useful Tip

Any idea how to look at your music by the folders where they are ? instead of Artist, Albums, etc.

I can go by the file manager but I can only hear one song at a time and the "next" option does not work through here.

Also how do you add music that is in the phone to your list of songs?

I had to put my songs in the "Sounds"  folder of my memory card and it works.   But if I create a folder "Music" or "Sounds" in the phone and put them there it does not work.

Thanks for the TIP about a new folder.  I created a "Multimedia" folder and added Photos, Music, Videos & TV, Reocorder, Camera, RealPlayer and FM Transmit.

PS: Any idea if you can change the icon of new folder?

You add music in the phone to the list of songs by Refreshing the Music Library can take a little time if you have a lot of songs.  Menu, Player, open Music Library, Options, Refresh Library.

Sorry, Asandino, your other issue I can't help with.  I looked at the possibility of through File Manager Marking all the songs in an Album and adding them to a Playlist, with the idea of naming the Playlist the same as the Album (or the Artist) but there seems to be no way to do that.

I certainly see your problem.  In my case all my songs are in a folder for the Album, so for me playing an Album in the Player is the same as if I wanted to play a folder under File Manager.  Then I had specific Playlists in Windows Media Player, which it transferred to my phone.

I tried this on my phone and was unable to replicate your problem.

Rather than switch off your phone, try using the Menu button to go back to the main menu, Options, Show Open Apps, select and hold the Picture app until the option to exit pops up, select Exit.  That may get you out of the Picture app without having to turn your phone off and on.

Is this only happening with one picture?  Perhaps that picture file is corrupt?  If it is only with one picture and you want to delete it anyway, delete it through File Manager.  Take some test pics and see if the problem happens with other pictures.

Glad you found it useful!  As to this question above, no, I have no idea.  There seems to be no menu option to change the icon and I noticed the other day when I downloaded some trial software that created a folder for itself that it had the same folder icon.  Seems you might be wanting just a little too much with this one!  :smileywink:

In Windows you can't change a folder icon either, and can change application icons when the developers have included icons or you have a supply of them lying around.  I think this must be along the same lines of logic.

Re: N97 Useful Tip

Depending on the theme, it will change the icons, while some will leave the themes in their default state.

Re: N97 Useful Tip

The question was about changing the icons on new folders we create - do you know of anyway to change those?  Other than a theme changing them, that is.

Re: N97 Useful Tip

I know. I answered two questions with one. No, and only via a theme that you have no control over. You will need a theme maker to create themes that will change the default icons. Take a look here: http://www.pizero.net/theme-gallery

:smileyvery-happy: No, no, not me - the person who asked the question can if he likes though.  I tried with my N80 and gave up - I'll leave the creating themes to others.  I already have Pizero's Pulsar on my phone - looks great on the black N97.

It sure does! Another thing I've done with my phone is set the right selection key to the Menu - saves having to use the silver hard button when the phone is unlocked. I don't like that silver button much!

Here's the wallpaper I have with that theme, mpierce. I just like it.

Re: N97 Useful Tip

Here's a tip for when you get home and you're wifi is ready and waiting but your N97 is clinging onto its 3G data connection.. press and hold the red key.. it asks you if you want to terminate your 3G data connection.. say yes and the next app that tries to use the internet will bring your wifi connection up.. It's a manual step, but better than using connection manager to do it
