I got it today too (same product code as you).
My best guess as to what it can be is an update to the FOTA settings in the phone. There is a fix to FOTA in the v12 firmware too so not sure if it's that on it's own.
I would love a FOTA update but nokia UK has not used that system much compared to elsewhere.
I suppose all we can do is wait and see what happens........

I have just got it. I think it is for FOTA you now v12 firmware does not seen on FOTA so it could be seen I can't test it because I have already installed v12.
But I like updates...

Same here. Seems like we're waiting forever to get the v12 fw for some prod cds. Don't get it why it takes so long to expand this to all. Are they waiting for early feedback first before offering it to all?
Had Low memory warnings for C since last week and only xfer of Messages to E memory got rid of it; and I'm annoyed how slow the N97 switches between landscape and portrait. Read that v12 will address both.

Just noticed in the app managed that this update added "FOTA Settings" to the list. The installation log confirms it too.
So it looks like a small fix to the FOTA settings is all it does.

Why must the upgrade to v12 be done with "Nokia Software Updater" - why can't some just post the sis file somewhere.
BTW: v12 had better be good - I am on the verge of ditching my N97 (RM-505) - it's so full of bugs and poor software design...
(My first post here :-)

Hi matt_t!
Yes, your assumption is corrent. 'Install before phone software 0.1' a is small fix that corrects the settings in the Software Update application. Unfortunately, we must ensure that the correction is first installed and the actual FOTA (Firmware Over the Air) update as the next step.
You need to unmark Phone Software and install this update first. The Phone software installation does not start if this package is not installed to the device.
Firmware version 12.0.024 is now available through the in-built Software Update application ![]()
Cheers!

It isn't available for the generic UK black product code (0585162) mentioned earier in this thread! It's still not on the NSU either.
Why are UK users being made to wait longer for updates? It's not just the N97 that it's happening too, it's all phones. For example the UK 5800 still hasn't got v30 which was released over a month ago elsewhere (via FOTA).

I am in Denmark and my RM-505 won't update either. Nolia told me that v12 would be available before the end of august, but why I had to wait they could not answer...
Still - why can't someone the v12 of the software not just post the .sis file somewhere for us unfortunate early-adapters to grap?

Because the update isn't a sis file, or anything that can be executed on it's own. Even if it was you couldn't install it as it's the phones product code that determines if a newer version is allowed or not.

Too bad. Some ought to hack that - I like to be able to control the hardware I pay for.
Just have to wait I suppose...

As you can tell, I am new to this. Any suggestions for good non-Nokia sites?

They have good forums there that will show you what is possible.
We have our hands tied on this forum as it's against the rules here to discuss potentially warranty voiding topics.

Well, unfortunately I bought the N97 and there was me thinking.. i am going to go with a real phone from a real phone company. Turns out that Nokia has now reached a very *** MEDIOCRE *** level of support, service and product quality.
This phone is simply **bleep**. There are bugs everywhere, I am not sure if Nokia even did any testing (white or black box testing, or regression) on this product. Screen is freezing, phone is locking up and all multi-tasking hype is a big joke. How can you be listening to a live stream and then the second you switch to something else it dies, where is the multitasking here..?
And to add insult to injury the software that Nokia makes available to manage the phone is something probably written by a 15 year old starting to learn Java. Where I can start, the slow response from the application. The 2 hours it takes to simply uninstall itself. The other piece of software that needs to run after it is uninstalled to clearn up the registry. Is anyone in the Nokia Software dev group for this phone thinking before creating this junk ?
Finally, Device Software updater simply dies with an uncomprehensible message about why it died and the user is left to dig left and right on the net to find a solution.
I am extremely disappointed in this phone and I have lost faith in all Nokia products I wish I never bought this piece of junk and for the price they sell it at.. what a rip off. I would take a refund if I could. I am done with Nokia and I will make sure to advise friends and colleagues of my experience. Shame on you Nokia !!!
